Wich petrol engine do you think is most reliable, has best performance?
Can you share your expierence of owining one? MPG, how many miles on the clock , expenses?

Performance wise the 1.8T has the most Tuning potential. I have 118,000 miles on the clock and it still runs beautifully. I've spent out a small fortune in comparission to the vehicles value recently due to the Clutch, water pump and a few tuning upgrades but its all worth it when I get in it and drive!! I get around 32mpg on a motorway run, but can go as low as 15mpg when i'm giving it some beans!

As far as standard performance, the 3.0V6 is more powerful in standard trim than the 1.8T but is obviously more juicy. I would recommend the 1.8T all day long, just make sure you check the usual problems have been done for the mileage of the vehicle.

Usual problems for the 1.8T include..............

above 70,000 Miles- Cam Belt, Waterpump Thermostat & Housing, Oil Pick Up Pipe

but really it has to be a 2.7 with some turbo's, or a v8 ?

Supercharged S4!!!!

Amen!

4.2L V8 with a PES kit adds another 130bhp / 120torques, effectively adding the power of a 2.0 A4 B6 to the already powerful S4.

sure a 1.8 is good and tuneable, but for power you need CC's, lots of them, and as many pistons as possible. a 4.2 in standard form is 300 bhp which is twice what some stock 1.8 turbo's produce.

^ spot on.
I wish I could afford to run an S4 as I would go out tomorrow and get one. They look, sound and go so well but that all comes at a price unfortunately.

I've just started a new job (within my company) and if it goes well and becomes permanent it will be a nice little pay increase, then I will 100% be upgrading to an S4, it will have to be on the B6 chassis as in not a fan of the B7, I think its looks aren't as nice as the B6

I would suggest the 190 bhp version as it comes in S Line trim as Standard and just looks a lot nicer. The 150 bhp model (what I have) becomes very boring very quickly and needs upgrading! Plus if you want to tune the car if you start with 190 bhp out the tin then your upgrades will yield bigger gains for less money than getting a 150 or 163 bhp to the equivalent power

I like the 4.2lt V8 in the B6 Cab I purchased on Monday - makes the right noises and is effortless.. looking forward to seeing if it can be tuned whilst staying NA in the future

Nope it's addictive.. Coming from a 2lt I-vtec k20a2 that revved to 8k this is a nice change to get power without effort

just a bit different to a type r. personally i really dislike them. parts are too expensive for a start and a lot of them are specific to a type r and only available from honda, but above all the engine has no go until you hit 6k and then its all or nothing. why they didn't just stick a blower on it ?

with just an exhaust and intake change mine pulls 212 at the fly which for a 2005 NA 2lt car is not all bad - I agree with your point that the engine made you work hard for your money, however once you got the sweetspot it was very rewarding especially on the track. Also as you say upgrades were very expensive for reasons to this date that I still do not understand, Spoon N1 SS backbox which unbelievably rotted after a few years was circa £300+, I had all my parts custom made for a fraction of this cost. looking forward to learning about the 4.2 though, already finding out about the intake flap so will get out there an check it is all working and decide if I want to lock it open at all
