Hi Everyone,

Been looking at the site as a guest for a while so thought I'd register now I've picked up my A6 (62 Reg, 2.0 TDI SE, Manual, Ice Silver, 6,800 on the clock) from Cheshire Oaks (Chester) Audi.

Not had chance to give the car a good drive so far but did manage a 20 mile drive on a mix of country, motorway and A road last night. Really impressed so far, certainly a better drive than the S-Max I traded in :D. Only slight -ve is the minor paint chips I pointed out on the car were not touched up, the sales rep has ordered me a free touch-up which will be with me next week.
I also discovered the owners handbook was missing when I got home. It should have been there and I should have checked, I phoned them and one will be available for me on Monday.

The car, an ex demonstrator, was missing the first aid kit on handover so the rep 'borrowed' one from the A6 sitting in the showroom.

Without the handbook I cannot answer a question the wife has about the car so wondering if someone here can help? With the keyless go system if the battery on the key fob fails can I still open/start the car? We traded in a Ford S-Max for the Audi and had an minor grip that the keyless system would sometimes fail to detect the key meaning we could not start the car. I'm not expecting this to be a problem with the A6 but wanted to check if it was possible to manually start the car.

Welcome to VWAF :)

Yes there's a manual lock n the drivers side door handle. I'm not sure if the car can be started tho.

Get some pics up :)

Yes the key can be put into he dash key slot and it will still start the vehicle normally.

The c7 doesn't have an ignition slot.

I'd go and have a look but the Wife is out in the car at the moment. Pretty sure I did not see and ignition key slot but could be mistaken.

One thing I did notice on my short drive last night was the difference between the driving settings. Efficiency made the car feel a tad sluggish compared to Dynamic but the ride was super smooth. The A6 felt like a rocket, compared to the S-Max, when I accelerated onto the motorway.

Do you have air suspension? If not I don't think the suspension is affected by changing the driving settings.

Sorry , I mean smooth in terms of gear change and getting the car up to speed from stationary. The car does not have air suspension to my knowledge, how can i tell?

The biting point of the clutch on the A6 is higher than the S-Max so was expecting to be a little jerky until I was used to it.

I believe the way to do it is to get into car using 'manual' key, then to enable the system hold the key against the little key icon on the dash. This will read the transponder chip and allow you to start the engine.

Thanks Whippy, the silly S-Max would let you open the car then show a message on the dashboard 'key not detected' leaving us stuck.

I think this does something similar which is why you need to hold it against the reader. Sounds odd but in the absence of any evidence to the contrary. I think I'm right. Give it a dry run.

Yes I've had to do this on the odd occasion that I've come to start the car and it didn't recognise the key. Think it happened because I opened the car but didn't start it for sometime. Held the key against the symbol and started fine. The sales guy pointed this out at handover.
