2006 Passat 2.0 TD

(1) Car cuts out after 2 seconds every now and again (Garage: Engine Fault message) and I have to wait 2 mins. Codes from cheap scanner say: J764 (Steering Column Lock - sporadic) and P1570 (Immobilizer)

(2) Car has b*gger all power every now and again - key in and out fixes it. Codes from cheap scanner say: P1592 (Altitude Sensor / Boost Pressure Sensor: Implausible Correlation) and P0101 (Mass Air Flow Sensor (G70) implausible signal - sporadic 006 short).

The first seems to be the common fault (you know the one). I wondered if people had good experiences with VW Customer services on that (if so, what number did they call, what did they say etc).

The second one has stumped me so I'll ask the Dealer to diagnose when I have the first one done.

Both have been around for a while but I am finally getting them sorted.

Thank you all for any comments
Cheers
Phillip

Yep - "If only all cars were as reliable as a Volkswagen" - I remember it well.

The second one is usually a wiring fault. VW should have a replacement loom for this. Ask a dealer.

The first fault is a common steering column fault and nedds parts and specific coding by dealer to sort it.

Well -

(1) VW quoted £980 to replace the Steering Column Lock and the ECU. They are going to try and just do the SCL for £360 (which I thought was reasonable). Fingers crossed it is just the SCL...

(2) VW would like £324 for a new wiring loom to be installed. I am going to live with the problem for a while!

VW Customer services told me "no" in respect of a contribution - basically because I have had the car serviced a couple of times at a specialist and not a dealer.

Cheers for your replies

Ask why (2) is necessary?

Don't think that's UK legal nowadays. Not an expert. Check with Trading Standards?
Implication being that if you had used dealer network for services, then they would've made a contribution :p

A goodwill contribution is based on loyalty to the brand which is fair to be honest as some of the contribution comes from the dealer not VW in some cases - it is also upto 5years also.
