Right, so I took the BiTurbo to JD Engineering on Wednesday morning.

On the Dyno car was 336BHP and 656Nm torque
Now is 409BHP and 824Nm!!!

The difference is noticable in a couple of ways.

1. It goes like absolute stink - no kidding.
2. Fuel consumption on gentle driving must be 10% improved or even better than that.

You still need to 'drive' the car, Sports mode and down a gear as well, revs need to be 2000 to 4500, but I think that was true before.

As discussed previously I visited 'Germany' on the way back and on the A303 Strasse in Wiltshirestag, I found that much speed could be obtained!

Either way I'm much much happier with it now, I've not needed any kick down because there is just so much shove, you get that real turbo kick in the back. It's obviously early days, so I'll see how things progress.

Speaking with the really nice people there (as the whole process took 3 hours plus), all engines are de-tuned for clean burn nowadays and they are really really busy, whilst I was there a chap came in with a 1.2 TFSI A3 only 4 months old to get it chipped, he went away with a smile on his face, said the throttle response was much better. A dealer came in with an un-registered Octavia 'Greenline' to get that done before the customer took it away, not so green anymore?

They like the BiTurbo engine, the 1.4 TFSI petrol breaks alot - injectors, timing chain, and I guess the same might be true of the 1.2. They like the 2.0 177PS Diesel, but it does need to be 'fixed'.

One other thing, on the BiTurbo, the Engine CPU is under the black cover that goes along the top of the engine bay just below the windscreen - they reckon it's a bad place as water runs from the screen and soaks the CPU! Mine (already slightly corroded) is now sporting clear plastic to protect it. To remove cover just pull off the rubber strip and gently lift out black cover, CPU is obvious on the left.

Oh yes and they took off that 155mph limit thing - such nice people

Brilliant. Scared a few weiß vans no doubt.

Good to hear your happier with the car now. I have tried your scenario a couple of times. It does kick down to first at 15mph but there is a very minimal delay in doing this and it does instantly grip and absolutely fly. The gear changes as it is going up through the gears are very quick so barely any real lag. Coming from a 335d coupe I had a fair idea of what I should be expecting but the A6 is much faster and the gearbox and engine response are 10x better. To be quite honest, I was a little worried before picking it up based on the comments on this forum thinking that I may have ordered a bit of a lame duck, but since picking it up the A6 has continued to surprise and please me constantly especially considering I live in a more rural area which has lots of windy hilly roads which are very pleasurable to drive.

Oh and the most pleasing thing is the exhaust sound, it honestly sounds like a V8. Took a couple of guys from work out in it who are completely against diesel cars in general but they are now completely converted, they had a very confused look on their faces when they left the car.

Out of interest what MPG were you getting before the re-map and after?

On the mpg we will see, but long term average was about 40-42. It's so linked to driving style I can't really tell, I took it easy over 15 miles yesterday and got 53 on A and B roads, warm engine (very happy with that), then I started booting it and dropped that down to 37 by the end of the day.

On the way back from Folkestone to Wiltshire on the motorways doing 75 and 52 in that really long bit of roadworks on the M25, I got 47mpg, I then opened the taps and reduced that somewhat.

I also found that the road surfaces in our country are very bi-polar, some are really bad, rough concrete poor economy, some are silky smooth, in Europe they seem to be better, especially in Holland. Although the tax on a big car like the A7 BiTurbo is about £2500 per year!!! Everyone drives small cars and the road wear is reduced.

I agree the exhaust is great and I'm pleased to hear it you think the car is better than the 335d as that was always an option but I never even bother test driving as rear wheel drive is verbotten where I live.

Hmmm, interesting. Im struggling to get about 34 but that is on back road and a short m-way stint. But its a 15 min journey so probably shouldnt expect to set the world on fire with short journeys. Was yours lower to begin with and then built up over time?

They like the 2.0 177PS Diesel, but it does need to be 'fixed'.

Can you elaborate? Are they saying there's an inherent problem or just that they think the engine is crying out to be remapped?

MF.

Hi Mark, they like the engine - as in it doesn't break all the time (like the 1.4TSFI does), but yes it needs to be remapped.

It has improved with time, but you've got to drive in E mode and very gentle on the throttle, the remap appears to have improved around town driving significantly, but it's still early days and I keep booting it and ruining the figures!

Being in "Germany" feel free to quote the speed in, err, "kph"

he said they removed the 155 mph limiter, i hope he can prove this :)

How did you measure the fuel consumption?

There's a real possibility that a reading from the car's computer will be wrong post remap. The calculation may well be being made with assumptions about amounts of fuel being injected in different speed / throttle combinations that are no longer valid post remap.
