My 2010 Audi A3 is showing fault 00003 in the instruments

Address 17 Instruments
00003 Control Module
014 Defective

Fault Status 01101110

As far as I can tell, the instruments are working perfectly. Can anyone suggest what's wrong?

Ah your first post was a little misleading, I thought you meant it was showing it on the dash, not in vcds :o

Press basic settings on the instrument cluster module page, if they're still functioning as they should I wouldn't really worry.

To be honest, I'm clutching at straws.
I just installed the retrofit cruise control kit. The install went fine, and I was able to change the steering wheel coding to suit (Coding 0002042), but it isn't working.
The instrument fault has been there since I bought the car without any symptom. I just thought now I have a problem, maybe they're connected..

Have you done the coding for the engine module also?

Ill double check in the morning but I did require to Login in the engine module to enable cruise as well as the steering ecu when I installed mine.

I was browsing this morning, and came to the same conclusion.
I'm at work right now so I can't check, but I'm sure there's no mention of this in the instructions?

Try Engine Module - Coding II and input 11463 is what I used.

Hold on - your a 2010 so try the normal coding for the engine module as yours may use long coding instead of my short code.

Just look for cruise and tick it.

Yes - the fault was there before I started the install, and is still there now.

Odd - it could be one of those lurking codes. I have one in my telephone module which never goes away even though I done the fix for it.

It's not a lurking code... the illegal clone being used is notorious for reporting false errors. Not saying this one is false. Not saying this error is true. Please find someone with a genuine VCDS system and see if you get the same results.

It's probably not Amazon selling direct, just a seller trading through Amazon.

Unfortunately, Amazon does not care. They simply permit sellers to find buyers. They make money and they don't care a whole lot about the threats we make to take them to court. They are big. We are small. They know they can do whatever they want. And sadly, people are mislead all the time.. not just on diagnostic tools cloned in China... but on a whole host of items. We all want to buy everything for nothing because we have limited funds. So, we love a bargain...

But you see, even real VCDS is a bargain.. A factory level diagnostic tool for $350 - i think that translates to like £263 .. when one stops to think what a dealer charges for a diagnostic scan, if one avoids those scans and makes repairs themselves, how fast will the cost of the tool be saved?

Seriously, do see if you can find someone to run a scan with a genuine factory level tool. See if that fault is real. I don't think it is.

I appreciate your comments, and as you say, mine is almost certainly not genuine (it cost less than half your price).
I am where I am , and frankly can't afford to dump this and buy a new one.
A bit disturbing though that Amazon is willing to sell fake goods! Next, we'll find they don't pay their taxes!
