I have had this a couple of times now where I use the Cigi 12v point to charge the company phone the fuse blows , it's because the connectors on the charger are to wide and it shorts out the power point, I was told this by Audi service bloke (not a tech ) , I thought it was a load of c£)@£ so ignored him as I have been using phone chargers in VW and Audi for years and never had a problem, however yesterday fuse went again. !! Apparently there is a difference between Cigi lighter socket and 12v power socket as the connection points are further apart on the 12v power socket than a Cigi lighter socket

I use my phone charger in the fag lighter just in front of the centre armrest with no problems.

Don't smoke though so that's its only use.

I find it a little hit & miss as use USB chargers for erm charging stuff. A belkin twin USB doesn't work at all and another single unit (with a natty chrome handle to aid removal) works fine...so am guessing the latter is slightly wider.

The only annoying thing is not being able to close the lid when charging stuff, so will be looking at installing a second lighter socket (with a lid to prevent stuff falling in it) in the base of the centre armrest which should keep things nice and tidy.

I had the problem with the fuse in my Jag so simply uprated to a 2A fuse and no such problems...PITA though as had to remove centre console to get to the in-line fuse. :aargh4:

has anyone worked out a way to get the front armrest lighter out without removing the centre console., apparently, Audi have a special pulling tool?????

I have a new fag lighter socket ready to replace the one i think has been blown up (charging iphone)

also, doe anyone recommend a particular set of trim removal tools?

I've been using el cheapo ebay cig lighter to USB socket chargers no issues with fuse or working aspects ...

For several long journeys I've had things plugged into the front and rear cig lighter simultaneously and had no issues ...

also, doe anyone recommend a particular set of trim removal tools?

I've been thinking of these el cheapo ... Link:- 4PCS Car Door Body Trim Panel Dash Center Console Installation Remover Tool Kit | eBay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/310542535938?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649)

Silly question and I appologise for teaching you to suck eggs but have you checked the fuse before replacing the socket, I must admit it hasnt even occured to me that I can change the socket from fag to power type.

According to P119 of the manual...

"The 12v socket for the cigarette lighter can also be used as a power source for other electrical appliances"

I've used a variety of chargers to power a variety of phones/devices in a variety of cars and never had a problem. No chance it's a problem with the phone? Having said that devices are getting more power hungry and although the socket has a maximum output (500ma?) that it shouldn't be able to go over possibly there is a power surge when the phone is connected which blows the fuse?

The work mobile is a galaxy s3, I will check the charging spec current on the charger I dont think it will be a problem, ive known people to run fridges in the boot without a problem I would think that would have a higher surge current if there is a motor of some description kicking in and out, not that I know how a fridge works
