Hi, I have a May 2004 Audi A3 2 litre Turbo Diesel and the rear wiper motor has stopped working. The fuse is ok and there is power to the motor, so my guess is that after 9 years the motor shaft has seized. My motor part number is 8E9 955 711B. So I looked on Ebay and there are a number of alternatives being offered which will allegedly fit my car, but "I must check compatibility before ordering". Some motor part numbers start with 8L9 whereas others end with 711A or 711E. Needless to say there are none that exactly match. My question is do I have to have an exact match or will other part numbers fit and provide the same functionality? Thank you. John

8E9 955 711 B > C > D > E
Above is the succession history of the VAG P/N ...
On my A6 2005 Valeo make the wiper motor ... I found alternative p/n's in the online catalogue Link:- Valeo (http://www.valeoservice.com/html/export/en/produits.catalogueproduits.php)Automotive (http://www.valeoservice.com/html/export/en/produits.catalogueproduits.php)Spare Parts (http://www.valeoservice.com/html/export/en/produits.catalogueproduits.php)
Mine stopped as well but my local garage took a look and freed it up for not very much money. Not sure how they did it but I think they only charged about 25 for it.

I'm also after a rear wiper motor for my A3 - I've looked on ebay and phoned ~10 breakers that have A3s on ebay - they are all sold out or the motor is ~£65 second hand. It simply isn't worth it when you can purchase a new motor for £82: Genuine Audi - A3 2005-2011 - Rear Wiper Motor | eBay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Audi-A3-2005-2011-Rear-Wiper-Motor-/150533685611?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item230c81c16b)
The price that my local Audi dealership and independent VW garage charge for a new motor is £117.20 so this one really is a bargain.
Note that you may find vagcat.com of use when looking for part numbers (although it doesn't show the revision numbers like the Valeo catalogue), but here is some information on VAG part numbers: http://www.vaglinks.com/Docs/Catalogues/VAG_Part_Numbers_Explained.pdf
Sometimes they revise the part number because the manufacturer changes.

The rear boot trim is a but of a phaff to get off, lots of spring clips and some horrible noises but once you get it off you wonder why you were worrying!
