Thinking of buying a goergeous A6, dripping with extras, but someone forgot to spec. folding mirrors. Dealer says retrofit is sooo expensive it's not worth even getting a price.
Has anyone had any experience of a DIY retrofit and do you have any info on typical costs? A very important part for me would be being able to re-use the existing cowls, 'cos it's an exclusive colour and I wouldn't want the hassle of a spray job.
Many thnaks.

Just watch - those part numbers aren't for the 4G.
Basically its easy enough, get the folding mirror base, use your existing mirror cap and glass and plug the loom into your door module, fit the new mirror switch and code with VCDS.
Biggie is the price, I was looking to retrofit these to my A3 but even 2nd hand, they're still fetching £500+ so dear knows what they are for a relatively new A6.

I spec'd folding mirrors on my A6 but the dealer entered it wrong on the order form and it came built with heated/dimming but not folding.
They retrofitted them for me using Hazydays (Home - Vw & Audi Sat Nav, Bluetooth , TV Tuners, Cruise Control Installations UK (www.vwcruise.com)) who did it in a couple of hours at the dealer. They re-use the painted cowls and the glass, they just change the mirror base/insides and the plastic control panel on the drivers door using genuine parts. No idea of the cost but you can't tell it wasn't done from built.
Hope that helps.

Many thanks for the info, guys.
I did drop HazyDays a line to enquire, but eventually found the answer on the website. £850. :aargh4: I'll ask further about just the parts but it looks like a reasonably easy job and I'm guessing labour can't be a big component of the price.
So it looks like that one is off the list. Pity, it was a cracker.
