I wonder if anyone can help. The Auto Wipers on my A4 have worked as normal until now. They now start wiping the screen when the screen is dry and once they start can only be stopped by putting the lever/stalk down to the off position, they do not stop on their own. If I move the lever/stalk up from auto to normal use position they also stop. The fast setting works as normal. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Update: When the wipers are in the fault mode the washers do not work either. The fault has now appeared at startup as well.

I'm sure you've already checked.. But I'm going to state the blindingly obvious..
Have you checked to make sure there aren't any fly splats or other marks around the sensor that could be triggering the auto wipers?
Also is the adjustment on top of the stalk set to it's minimum position i.e. tab all the way to the left?

Hi, thanks for your response. No fly spats or anything around the sensor and I have tried the tab in all positions. The problem occurs on most journeys and can be "cured" by switching off the ignition and restarting.

Sounds like it could be a faulty sensor then I'm afraid... The sensor will reset each time the ignition is turned off and must get triggered during your journey, I guess it could be a loose connection somewhere.
Could be a trip to the dealer unfortunately...
