Sorry to jump in, would I be able to do this on my 57 plate Le Mans or is it face lift models only?

Cheaper to buy a facelift cluster, Gup! Go on - you know you want to :) You get the Lap Timer DIS screen, too (with oil temp and turbo boost gauge). Have I convinced you yet? :)

I have the facelift cluster in my pre.

I need a copy of VCDS :( or someone to loan it me. (Not sure how that would work. Lol)

Well... Igloo and I met up, and we connected VCDS up to his car. It does indeed have a facelift cluster, but it is coded rather weirdly. There were only three coding bytes - I'm sure my C6 facelift had a lot more. The bits for Needle Sweep and Lap Timer in Byte 1 were already enabled, but neither feature is working. We tried disabling them (to see if the coding had somehow got inverted) but it made no difference. We also noticed that in Byte 2 the cluster is set up as A6 Allroad. We changed this to A6 sedan/limousine, and this introduced an incessant bonging when starting the car (until the seatbelt was fastened) - rather like you get on US cars.

In the end, we put the cluster back to its original coding - it seems maybe it's too early a version to support needle sweep?

The details of the cluster from VCDS are:

Address 17: Instruments Labels: 4F0-920-xxx-17.clb
Part No SW: 4F0 920 983 P HW: 4F0 920 983 P
Component: KOMBIINSTR. 0900
Revision: 00400000 Serial number: *********
Coding: 2308457
Shop #: WSC 00583 210 93145
VCID: 3972272870469ED0262

No fault code found.

Mark,

Lovely to meet you and thanks for the patience sorting my car out :)

Much better to have the useful mod instead of just sweep :)

Hopefully someone can shed the light on the cluster "issue".

Me personally I think the needle sweep looks a tad naff when your speedo starts from the usual 7 o'clock position. But it looks rather good when the needle starts from the vertical 6 o'clock position. It's funny how little changes can make all the difference. :)

Hi Chris,

Someone mentioned here that it can be done on 58 plates and over. I have an 08 does (is that too early), I believe its a facelift model and I have activated this via VCDS and I still got nothing, does that mean there is something wrong or I have simply messed up somewhere.

I appreciate your help.

Don't meant to steal/hijack thread

08 plate won't be facelift as they only started coming in '58 onwards.

You could have a facelift cluster in your prefacelift but Igloo is in the same scenario and didn't work when activated.

Post a pic of your car and it'll be easy to tell.

Sounds just like Igloo's, yes. When you go into "Coding" in 17 - Instruments do you see a button that says "Long coding helper" or one that says "Coding helper" or is there no button at all?

On Igloo's car, there was a "Coding helper" button, and only three bytes to choose from. The overall coding string is a lot shorter than it was on my facelift C6. His is set to 2308457 whereas mine was 2F7D080502002600010400

What software and hardware part numbers does your cluster register in VCDS?

Cheers!

MF.
