Hi,

I have a diesel pump thats developed a leak, its the ve/vp36/37 style but i cant put an exact number to it, but its the common one with a ecu etc instead of the old pull wire throttle..

this one..

Issue is the seals started to leak and it had diesel running down the front of the engine, some bio has been used...

So I took the top cover off (first 4 bolts), and i had no spare seal being a sunday, so I 'back packed' up the seal and all was good with the top plate, but the top plate leak was never too bad before, it was the next seal down, the one that holds all the throttle/quantity 'stuff'...

I remove the remaining three bolts in that and did the same to its seal...

Now the problem, how do you get the 'knob' of the quantity ''thingy'' back into the sliding bit on the shaft in the lower half of the pump????

you cant see what your doing as you assemble it!

what trickery is involved, I have had 4 goes this morning and failed each time, I'm sure the slider moves as soon as it see's me trying to get my 'knob' in the hole....

Sorry for the non technical terms, but I think you can 'see' what parts i am fighting with if you have had one apart etc.

Welcome to VWAF :)

If you let me know what vehicle you've broken, I'll move this to the relevant section - this is the Intro section.

Hi sam, thanks, is there not a ''diesel tech'' section, its not really on a vehicle parse, its on a french van engine, just _exact_same pump as VW use and theres more VW experts than my ability to speak french and i'm more used to vag as I have worked on them before ...

its not even really that technical, its just a mechanical puzzle really.. how to get a round peg in a round hole blindfold with one hand tied behind your back...

It might be best in a4/b5 as I'm sure its same pump, does ahl mean anything?

Try to ignore the irritating whine its an American accent not a mechanical fault TDI-pumpseal-1.mpg - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VR44StvcXms&list=WL4776C0A9F888DDBD)

Congrats, you win the first ever annual "I have no idea where to move this thread" award.

I'll leave it here for now - someone smarter than what I is may have a better idea.
