hi
i have a 1998 avant 2.5tdi and the headlights are shockingly bad
can any one suggest a remedy for this please:(
As your car ages, the wiring and earth points slowly degrade.
The best solution is to use a fused relayed harness, so that the lights draw directly from the battery.
Also change the bulbs to a 'brighter' Osram or Philips bulb.
You can also use high wattage 'Offroad' bulbs with no long term side effects. (90/100W etc are not noticably 'too bright')
Other than that, if you have a 'projector' style low beam, install an HID kit.

thanks for the advice
i have looked at HID kits and the price varies greatly, would you recomend an particular kit
Many of the aftermarket kits vary greatly in price, even though most of them are now identical, except for the ballast labels and packaging.
I would recommend one of the later gen, high output 55W kits, as they are very bright.
If you purchase a standard 35W setup, i would just go for the cheapest 4300 or 6000K kit available on ebay.
Most of them have a years warranty, and even if something does fail, it is very inexpensive to replace parts. (ballast or bulbs etc)
Something like this should increase the light output:
