If you don't use them but like the outward look why not just fit some and not connect them up if it's going to be a jump through hoops job to complete fully, I would imagine it should be a simple plug in and then a VAG-com to activate them, might need a new headlight switch as well if they are different between the specs, an early check would be to see if there is any loom wires residing in the inner wing.

Got two replacement grills with fog lens and lights and bulbs. But instead of the OEM cables which wern't there (loom available from Kauftec in Germany) wired them in parallel. Took the negative directly to battery -ve, took the positive via a fuse to a fused relay contact normally open. Took the relay +ve to a LED rocker switch mounted by the side of the drivers' drop down pocket, and took the other side of the switch to +ve switched feed in engine fuse box.

You can't run fogs as DRLs this way, but it's so much simpler and you have the flexibility of having fogs on independently of anything else (it's an offence to have fogs on when viz greater than 100M!) And you don't need to change out headlight switch either

I fitted a set to my friends SEL passat.

I got the grills/fogs from ebay, the switch from VW and the loom from Kufatec.
All in cost around £180 in 2011.

Not too difficult and as it has the loom she has the fogs as DRL's.
