firstly let me say hello:biglaugh:, i'm a new boy. I'm after some help as the title suggests, late last night i put the key fob in the ignition of my 05 passat SE and nothing happened except an amber steering wheel lit up on the dash. Ive researched and discovered that its a steering colum issue nothing new it would appear, but thats not my problem, the car was booked into the garage and was due to be fixed today. But being a none car fella I booked a transporter to take my car to the garage, my car has an electronic handbreak that i cant disengage to get the car on the truck, that cost me £30.00 call out fee to learn that:aargh4:. Anyway I guess my question is how do i get the handbreak to release while the car is in imobilizied mode, Ive spoke the garage today that said that disconnect the battery for a bit, then re connect it, put the key fob in the car to turn the ignition on, then put the headlights on full beam while putting my foot on the brake and then keep pressing the the electric brake. Im a patient fella but ive been on this all day with no luck. I would really appreciate it if anybody can give me any other ideas or point me to some links, am i doing the sequence right i just dont know.

Cheers for any help

You need some torx bits. Take off epb motor (two bolts) Wind caliper center drive back 360 degrees. Refit epb motor. Repeat for other side. Don't disconnect any wiring. The brakes are now free.
