You know, i am new in this forum and have noticed it is full of problems, complaints, faults etc.; so i was wondering if there are any happy B6
owners.
I, for one, am happy with my 59 reg tdi Passat.
I find it comfortable, easy on fuel, powerful enough, good looking and so far reliable.
And yes, i would buy it again:D.

thing is, people don't find a forum to tell everyone how good their car is, usually just to find an answer as to why its doing something it shouldn't.
but it is nice when people are happy with their cars.
if its any consolation, i am more than happy with my old 80.

Hi zollaf,
yes, i understand that, for example i have joined the forum to see whats going on around VW cars ( i own two ), and to get/give tips on them.
In this case i was just wandering what was the general view about this VW car.

Another happy customer here ohmohm - and the 1.9 estate I have is the second b6 I've owned.

They look good and when shopping around to change there was nothing I fancied more. Yes it does have its known issues but so does every car. I decided to stick with what I know rather than change. People will always use this forum for help (as I have done), but a good idea to start a positive thread...

Got to say though I think I was lucky to escape cost-free from my first b6. They seemed to have made them more reliable from 08 onwards, eg redesigning the EPB motor and AFAIK an up rated DMF too.

I have been driving for 30 years and have many different makes and models of cars, I have never owned the same of car twice, until now that is i am on my second passat the first i owned for 6 years and my current passat B6 2.0 tdi sport i have had for 4 years, they have been the most reliable cars i have ever had, that is not to say they are perfect they have issue like all cars but when you weigh up the good bits against the bad they are a bloody good car.

Yep, Zollaf pretty much sums this one up I think Luigi.......

Rover 12 (1949 reg)
Armstrong Siddley Lancaster (1952 reg)
Jaguar 3.4 Mk1 (can't remember reg)
Jaguar 3.4 Mk7M (don't want to remember)
Rover 60 (75 and 90 body style series)
Austin Mini 850
break abroad
Morris Oxford
Austin Marina van (ugh)
Austin Princess 3.0 (funerals and marriages!)
Austin Princess 2600 Vanden Plas (this was good!)
Rover P5 3.5L (brilliant)
Rover P6 Coupe 3.5L (stately)
Austin Marina 2.0L T (death trap)
Citroen CX IE
2x Citroen CX Estates
Citroen AX
VW Passat B3
VW Passat B5
VW Passat B6 2.0L tFSI Estate

Got the current more or less running as designers intended (and more!) But it's been a bit of an uphill fight getting and keeping it there! Air conditioning compressor seized. Intake manifold flap motor issue, boot lid rust issue, coils update, headlights' condensation internally, turbo hose and wiper arms' gasket (these fixed under warranty and/or free recalls). Control arms outer bushes, 4-wheel laser tracking. Headunit that doesn't play MP3s (in a 2006 MY?), 1x EPB

But overall, if you can spare the time/energy and own research, you get a car that's spec'ed up higher, employs more advanced engineering, and is generally better than an equivalent priced car from other makers. Only let down by poor dealer support and an attitude toward customers

Given the "interesting" cars I've had before, perhaps I'm looking thru rose tinted specs!
But I'm at a time of my life where reliability is the #1. So couldn't have gone back

I'm 50/50

I love the car, it hasn't been a pig yet, it has had a couple of issues that imo shouldn't appear until at least 150k

I do also feel VW isn't alone in this, French cars are a good way to take 20 years off your life as are Italian ones, Vx,Ford,Toyota,Honda all make a reasonable car but not without their own little specialised list of faults, Nissan is Renault so a no no, the ruin of a good firm imo, and now there is the Korean invasion of possibly good cars for good prices, Hyundai and Kia both knocking out some nice tin with uber warranties so I guess time will tell just how good they are.

Yes, perfectly happy with mine.

Recently fixed the steering lock issue, flew an MOT and at 130 something thousand miles feels like a new car.
2.0 tdi with dsg and auto holld is a combination that is a well kept secret.

it's without a question the most beautifully resolved car i've ever owned.

That it looks after its front tyres and wears them evenly is a revelwtion to me.
A fantastic car.
