I've just fitted a timing belt to a 2004 A4 1.8T Cabrio. I set the gap between the tensioner arm/body at 8mm. Once finished I rotated the engine a few times by hand to check everything was ok and I noticed the 8mm gap had increased by quite alot.

To double check, I slackened the tensioner off and started again. Set the gap at 8mm again and once finished I rotated the engine and again the gap increased.

Is it supposed to do this as everywhere I've read says to make sure the gap is set correctly but doesn't say if it will move once finished ?
