Hi,

looks like i can see what looks like rust starting to form in the corner where my wheel arch meets my sil. paints flaked off a little presumably from stones etc.

any suggestions on how I tackle this issue? I can post pics if it helps?

Thanks

If the rust has come from beneath the paint it could be covered under the 12 year corrosion guarantee.

Search "corrosion" as there have been a few big threads on this issue on the passat and a6.

If your car is under 3years old, it will be a paint warranty, and they will fix it right away, otherwise its an uphill battle under the 12year warranty

Is not that much of a battle tbh if the corrosion comes from beneath the paint.

If its there because of an external factor such as a stone chip then it won't be covered.

Incase anyone is considering requesting a paint inspection under warranty, this was the state of mine that was approved for repair.

Hi guys,
see link below to a lengthy thread in the Passat section re this same issue

Please Help front wing corrosion (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?104409-front-wing-corrosion)

I myself have been heavily involved in this, as well as many others.
It took me a few months of haggling as VW tried the old 50% goodwill, followed by the last offer of 70% goodwill........I refused and invited them to stand behind their 12 year anti corrosion warranty before I tested it in the small claims court.

I won't go into any more detail as the process is logged at some length within the post by myself and others...........Its required reading if you suffer from this issue and has already assisted dozens of members to get a resolution.

Hope it helps :beerchug:

Well ive had mine inspected and got news today. Guy said we will do it as a good will gesture under one condition you get your car serviced!!! Eh... my car had fash when i bought it when the service was due which was 3 months ago i did it myself so doesnt need a service i said. To that he said well they will only repair my bootlid if i get a service done as they reckon the weld has came away on the corner were rust is showing. Sounds like im getting fobbed off what do you guys think?

Service history doesn't affect the 12 year anti corrosion guarantee

Get back and complain.

Thats the thing chris their getting out of that as they say it doesnt fall under the warranty as they rekon the weld as split, doesnt look like that to me . Its corrosion imo and they no it. Good will gesture my **** out to squeeze a bit of coin out of you.

Ring customer services on 0800 699 888 and complain direct to Audi

Once you get HQ involved the dealer will easily give in.

As stated, service history is irrelevant, although they may try to bring that into the mix. They may also go down the route of "brand loyalty"....again, doesn't come into it.

Customer services and stick toyour guns and fight for whats rightfully yours

Both front wings on my B6 have rust all the way around the wheel arches. The car's done 196K and has been serviced by an independent for the last 3 years, what's my chances??

Mileage won't make a difference, as should where its been serviced, although they may try the "loyalty" route, don't fall for it.

As long as it falls within the 12 year period, then go for it.

Good luck

Been in touch with customer service and they are basically saying the same as the dealer get the car serviced and we'll repair bootlid under a good will gesture..

Ive told them its a failure under there warranty and nothing to do with the service. They then said they will have another word and get back to me.

Any advice as to when to try to fob me off again?

Kudos to you Elkots for seeing it through......too many just give up and can't take the hassle unfortunately, which is a winner for VW.

You're the winner this time.......congrats my friend

Well hats off to Stirling and latterly Glasgow audi, for exceeding my expectations re my corrosion warranty work. There was absolutely no issues initially honouring the warranty fir the tiny bit of flaked paint at the corner of my arches, which was beginning to look suss. Turns out they replaced both wings, not a touch up. Installed little discrete runners on the inner side to protect against further chips. They also replaced by boot lid. I didn't even realise anything was wrong with it. And my car came back spotless, polished, back to black the lot. There not a trace of tar to be seen anywhere so saved me a job. Very impressed with the service, do credit where credits due. That's guy's. Pics to follow

I have the same on my 58 plate. Flaked paint on the front wings at the same place and on the tailgate there is like a couple of blisters that is at an early stage.
Going to have to see about them.

Just noticed something similar myself when I was de-tarring the two sides of my car, will Belfast Audi play ball with me on this?
The car is an 09 plate 2.0 Tdi Quattro with full Belfast Audi history, the cars done 48k and had 2 long life services complete.

What Audi dealership did you take it to. I took my one to Hillington (Scotlands only approved Audi repairer). Quoted £1200 for a new wing supplied and painted, no warranty because the wing had been replaced, but my car has only ever been in the dealer network. Go figure.

Called into Belfast Audi today who referred me to their Accident Repair workshop, their parent company franchise all the top marques in Belfast eg Porsche, BMW, Mercedes and all the VAG cars, they looked at it, wing is getting replaced/painted and the opposite side is getting painted as well, result:)

Well heres a update. My car has been in body shop 2 weeks gone friday. They have been waiting for an inspector as they said the lid was unrepairable.. so my car is getting a new lid. The inspector has also said the car needs 2 front wings or at least need repairing so looks like their getting done to i didn even notice this.

Cant grumble i suppose the wife is over the moon with the a3 tdi s line cabby courteousy car..

And im over the moon as ive went back to bmw and bought a used 520d m sport new shape in alpine white...

So theres going to be a nice audi for sale soon if i ever get it back lol.

An inspector looked at mine last week just to make sure there was no accident damage on the problem wings, thankfully there wasn't any new paint anywhere on the car, be nice to get an S3 or RS4 while its in, something tells me it'll be a Polo or Fabia:)

if its agnew repair centre it'll be a mini countryman like I got out when my A3 was in with them.

i also saw a fleet of seat ibiza's sitting so you could be really unlucky and get one of those!

Mine gets picked up next Wednesday to be inspected by an Audi Tech coming over from Germany, it has already been in for the normal inspection but according to them they periodically select cars at random to be looked at by a German Tech.

Hello Everyone

I've just been reading this thread and I too have paint problems on both front wings exactly like GDALLAS photo. My car is a B8 A4 2011 ibis white dynamic 29000 miles its just out of warranty and I bought it from a non audi dealer with fash .my question is whom do I contact to sort this out please....

Fulty74
05-11-2014, 03:38 PM
Doesn't matter where you bought it, I bought my vehicle private and only noticed the corrosion after reading this thread. I took it to Belfast Audi, they arranged for the car to be assessed and stood over the paint warranty. The assessor thoroughly checked the paint micron with his device and confirmed the car had never been painted or had previous damage, I'd assume this is Audi's 'get out of jail free card' to deny repair. A few days later Belfast Audi arranged for the car to be repaired providing a courtesy car as well, couldn't have been better looked after.
