Hi All,
I've recently bought a 2008 (58) Golf 2.0 SE TDI estate and am interested in upgrading the RCD 300 to a DAB RCD 510. As the existing aerial will only supply AM/FM signals to the headunit, I will need to get a screen mounted DAB aerial.
If anyone on here has used one of these, I would be very grateful if you would let me know what these look like once they are fitted? I am hoping for a discrete look, and not something that screams out as something of an afterthought.

Also, i may consider the possibility of going the whole hog and getting the DAB/NAV unit. Are there any system requirements that would prevent such an upgrade in my car? I am aware of the canbus upgrade but that should not be required in 08 cars onwards.
Thanks in advance!

Dab RNS 510 are just becoming available in Europe so no ebay purchase just yet. Go the site of Hirshmann for proper combo antenna's for the golf. and this site for all the info you are likely to need.

Your Can Gateway should be alright on a 58 plate but check it is later than a "K" revision unit to avoid battery drain in off position.

Hi Richard, thanks for the reply.
When you mention a combo aerial, is that an aerial that replaces the FM one?

Thanks,
Russ

Yes this antenna model depending, can combine FM, DAB, and Satelite reception. go to the Hirschmann site to see the various models available. this c.o is an oem supplier to VW

Thanks mate,
I've looked on the Hirschmann site, that aerial looks to be a straight swap for my 'bee-sting' type.
Pricey though!

You will find that a standard OEM bee sting antenna is just as pricey from VW, had to buy one for my passat about 5 years ago and could not believe the cost but there is no decent alternative. Tried a sharks fin from China and it was as bad as the damage antenna (water ingress destroyed the amp in the antenna head) I was having to replace.

Did you get sorted with an aerial? I'm currently selling a dab rns510 and a genuine dab/GPS roof mounted sharkfin. If anyones interested pm me.

Yes I was sorted, You say you have a DAB Radio Navigation system (RNS 510) which I have not seen any details on todate other than the attachment incorporated into the existing HU of a DAB tuner, are you sure it it is not an RCD 510 (no Navigation function) ?

I've never heard of a Nav + DAB, is this a system that you have owned and used?
I may be interested, can you PM me what you are looking to get for it?
Thanks,
Russ
