As with every car I have out, I always do a little thread with pics, and this one is no expection :D

My C6 A6 is in for its MOT this morning and its booked for Wednesday so have the C7 a few days 5 years old and 2nd MOT (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?142084-5-years-old-and-2nd-MOT)

It literally is a brand new car, 991 miles when I picked it up, and registered on the 3/1/13

Its a 2.0 TDi SE (177bhp) with Multitronic gearbox in Quartz Grey - not my thing, more on this below.

It's the basic car with SD nav, leather, aux port but with the only option being the storage pack as far as I can see.

This is my first time having some decent time with a C7, and I can definitely say its miles ahead of my C6, both in build quality and technology.

It's a nice car to drive, very quiet and brisk. But with only 1000 miles on the clock I didn't give it too much oomph.

Sadly its let down by the multitronic gearbox, being use to a tiptronic it doesn't have the same feel as the tip, there is no creep in drive or reverse, you need to give it revs and reversing up my driveway it revved to nearly 1700rpm before it moved.

Give me a manual anyday or s-tronic or tip.

Drive Select: Definite difference from Efficiency right down to Dynamic. E gives little power, I planted the throttle to just before the kickdown and barely moved, but switching to Dynamic put the gearbox into sport straightaway and made the car progress better.

I will be keeping it in E for the next couple of days as I'll be using the car for commuting.

Another nice and useful touch is the auto applying handbrake .. Press the Stop button, take your seatbelt off and open the drivers door, the handbrake applies itself. Which is nice :D

Those things aside, its a very nice car. The new DIS (albeit the basic one) confused me a little trying to get the digital speedo up as there is no reset button on the bottom of the wiper stalk, but I got there in the end and even streamed some music from my iPhone using the steering wheel.

VCDS:

As with every car, I always have a little look to see whats lurking below the dash. With it being a new model, there are still some label files missing so I got the No Coding warning when I opened a module. I have however sent RT an Autoscan and Controller Map of the car to help them along.

Enabled the dial sweep, hidden menu, passenger mirror tilt and bleep on lock using Mark's VCDS thread at the top of this section.

I might download the VCDS 12 Beta and see if anything changes.

It was the Dealers own car, so no high specced S-Line but a very good car in general.

I definitely know for sure what my next car will be :approve:

As you can see, I have nothing to do today, so took a few (and probably useless) snaps.

Chris,

Interesting to see some pictures of the car with the standard spec. I know that when I was trying to decide on options it wasn't that easy to work out exactly what you got as standard, for example I couldn't find any pictures of the standard DIS, so took the risk and went for Colour DIS. Looking at the pictures I'm not sure if this car has the Storage Pack, as on mine I've got 2 12v sockets on the rear centre console, where this only shows 1.

Great post!! Thanks Chris - it's really interesting to see what a basic car looks like! It doesn't have the storage pack - it looks like a no-option SE. I was quite shocked by how small the screen area is compared with mine. I must admit to not liking the 4-spoke SE steering wheel too - the S line 3 spoke wheel with round airbag and perforated leather just looks so much more classy.

If you had been given an S line in Ice Silver, I would have been over there in a jiffy with my spanners, swapping over the rear bumper with the one on my car! ;)

Woohoo, least my threads have finally gained a purpose ;) Glad you enjoyed, I really like this car, and a C7 will be for sure, my next purchase.

Mark, I thought if the little storage nets were on the back of the seats and the little trays under the fronts, it had the storage pack?

I have nothing against the SE, it's just not my thing being use to a S-Line as you well know. Although, enjoying the comfy and smooth ride I could get use to.

Your VCDS guide came in handy too considering most modules still don't have their coding :zx11:

Mark, do all C7's come with keyless go?

This one has the button on the console but you still need to unlock and lock with the key?

Some more messing about and more of the basic DIS.

Hi Chris,

The nets and trays are standard fitment. The spec of the Storage Pack is:

PAC - Storage package consisting of 2 drinks holders in the rear centre armrest, luggage net for luggage compartment and two 12-Volt
sockets in the rear.

Glad the VCDS tricks came in handy! Does your car support the Lap Timer in the DIS?

Cheers!

I see, you learn something new everyday!

Nope, it said coding was out out of range so only got the needle sweep enabled.

The cluster is 4G8 920 950 N so compare that to yours but being the basic cluster I'm not surprised it didn't work.

I just noticed that they come with radio clocks now, which is neat!

Yep - standard on all A6s. You can upgrade to the full keyless entry if you spec it (where the car unlocks as you approach with the key in your pocket) but the standard system makes you lock and unlock from the key fob.

I think my cluster has a hankering to be basic spec :) Interesting to know Lap Timer is only available on clusters with the colour DIS - and then only ones after a certain build date. The radio clock is a nice feature - no having to mess about when the clocks go forwards or backwards by an hour :)

Just noticed it has the interior lighting pack (footwell lights) or is this standard too?

Also, are the front and rear sensors standard? If so, they've certainly added to the standard spec compared to a standard C6!

I dont think I wanna give this back! :biglaugh:

Certainly a nice car - it's the back that keeps putting me off on this model/version
I'll see my options this year when I pay off the remaining HP on it but I think Audi have got hold of my thoughts too as they keep sending me literature on the new A6

Yes Chris they are all standard now. Lighting pack adds extra detail lighting, LED interior lights and active door reflectors but not sure it is really worth the extra

I don't mind it .. Didn't really like it when it came out, but I love the shape now.

Only gripe is the Multitronic and SE but I couldn't choose so I will have to make do.

Impressive standard kit then, suppose with BMW/Mercedes adding more as standard Audi had to follow suit. Now I know how all you C7 owners feel! :D

they keep sending me stuff about the C7 and offered me a extended test drive so I've got a extended test drive on Saturday in a C7 3.0 245bhp s-line.
As for the multiitronic gearbox chris mine creeps forward even up hill so I'm guessing they have change this on the C7
I'm interested to see how much it's change from my C6 as mine is 19 mths old now.
I don't think they will offer me the money I'm after for mine so I won't hold my hope's up

The lighting pack also adds lighting stips underneath the swage lines in the door cards. You can only really see the effect when it's really dark. I notice from the pics you posted that the red LED downlighters above the MMI panel are standard. I had assumed these were part of the Lighting Pack, but apparently they are standard.

Front and rear PDC with on-screen display is standard now, as is the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System.

Did you manage to enable the cornering lights on your loaner? Just wondering if it's possible on a Halogen-equipped SE?

Cheers!

You get used to the gearbox. Yes, it needs welly in reverse, but it does also creep if you have time. The advantage of a completely smooth ride, never feeling or hearing any gear change is very nice. I do think that the 3.0 is a much, much better engine than the 2.0, though, and I am really glad I got it (I had no choice if I wanted ACC.)

I must say that looking at those pictures demonstrates to me how right I was to spec the tech stuff. It's just so much nicer.

Remind what the gripe is about the SE? I found it so much nicer than the S-Line, I couldn't work out why the S-Line cost more. The ride is certainly much nicer.

It doesn't have the light strips on the doors, 99% sure about that.

Yep it has TPMS too, forgot to mention that!

Yes! I did! Dipped beam on and the fog light comes on depending on which way the wheel is turned.

I think the Xenon equipped cars have all weather lights built in to the cluster?

Tried VCDS Beta 12 and sill produced the no coding error.

Ill certainly see over the next couple of days how it performs but I must admit it [i]is[/] über smooth. I forgot about the gearbox having no creep this evening, filling it with fuel, waiting to leave I took my foot off the brake and nothing happened (the handbrake was off) and then I suddenly realised! Oops :(

Timothy and Mark, do your cars apply the handbrake automatically if you press the stop button then open the drivers door?

I've always preferred S-Lines, maybe I'm getting old (lol!) but I like the body kit and lower ride height, this car with the chunky sidewalks looks like its on stilts but that's just me driving an S-Line for the past 4 years.

I agree the ride is definitely smoother but my back and my wife have got use to the harder ride of the S-Line so it's always nice to have something different from the norm.

Ummm... Lower quality leather, ugly steering wheel, less functional and less comfy seats, halogen lights, wallowy suspension, wheels that look too small for the car... :)

Horses for courses, of course. The S line was a no-brainer for me, based on my preferences and desired spec. It sounds like the SE suits you far better than the S line. I'm really pleased that Audi market both spec levels, because it means we can both be happy in the same overall car, and we can both agree that is is a fine, well-built, satisfying way to travel around the country.

I find the seats comfy but they lack support compared to the Sport seats in my A3 and A6 - I felt myself sliding this afternoon going round a roundabout.

Agree on the steering wheel, it's horrid. Don't know if the 3 spoke is available on the SE?

Handling and wheels I agree on too, feels like the car is on stilts and rolls like a bouncy castle

Halogen lights I don't mind but the next car will definitely be either Xenon or LED equipped.

The C7 S line with optional 30mm drop S line suspension and 20" wheels offers a more supple ride than a C6 S line on 19" wheels - it is noticeably better.

Goodbye C7 .. But wow getting back into the 3.0 made my day and driving a proper gearbox oh my! :D

Done 700 miles in LIG and I enjoyed every mile. A C7 will be my next car, albeit in S-Line and 3.0 TDi (single or twin turbo hmmmm) guise.

The multichronic was I suppose, OK, it was very smooth but we never got on so it wasn't a match made in heaven.

Chris, thanks for that post, very informative for me as a prospective owner. I like your attention to detail with photo's/description. I was keen on the SE but after reading these posts/opinions i may now look at the S trim. By way of comparison I have just received an offer of an SE in Q grey (my favourite) OTR for £23550!!

Amazing to see that some of the fittings and trim bits n' bobs are the same as in my B5 Passat and my wife's Fabia, no bad thing but I suppose that the VAG parts bin is quite deep to achieve global dominance!

Interested in your views of the multitronic....seems to mirror the motoring press in general and mine also, but then I do like a manual g/b.

Anyway keep up the good work and thanks again

I've got an SE which is pretty much identical to the one in the photos (mine is Ice Silver) and I don't think it is bland. Ok, the wheels would look more appealing with bigger rims and lower profile tyres (and without the massive scrape the Mrs put in the front left wheel yesterday :zx11:).

I gave my SE its first proper wash last night and as the light was fading I open a beer and stood there looking at the car. I never noticed before how flared, if that is the correct term, the front wheel arches are compared the rest of the body. I think the styling/design is brilliant.

I loved my My C6 2.4 SE (manual). It was my first Audi and in Akoya silver, blue leather trim, and 18 inch wheels I felt like the king of the road. I never got on with S-Lines until the C7, just too crashy for such a big car, but my new Avant 245 is S-line trim, it is at least as comfortable as my old SE and (shall we say) slightly quicker (Please be ready for delivery next week !!!). To me it reminds me of my 2007 A8 3.0 quattro (much loved and missed) in the way it drives and feels in the cabin. I think that is a great testament to how much work Audi have put into the car to make it feel so much like what was their flagship vehicle.
