Hi all, just had the cam and pump belts done on my 2005 lt35 109 and now it's down on power and sounds different. The garage used tipex to mark everything and then checked the pump timing with a DTI. Does it still need dynamically timing and does anyone in the rushden area have the equipment the know how and the time to help me out? There are many beers waiting for a great outcome.
cheers,

its a big job on one of those, about 7 hours labour. the bolts both ends of the cam must be undone and the crank set to tdc, then the cam timed up using a plate, then the pump using a dti, then the pump checked on a computer. if they used tippex, then they have bodged it unless they just used tippex as a reference to double check against. they are very easy to do right, just take a long time, but also very easy to get wrong.

Hmm I guess. The tipex was used as reference only or they wouldn't have bothered with the DTI. I hope,

depends if they know what a dti is for. you set the timing belt up, then set the pump up, turning it until the dti reads a set value, about 1mm but varies dependent on engine code. they could have gone 1mm after injection rather than before, so injection is happening much later than it should. with vcds you can see where the timing is so i would start there.

That does sound possible, if it was an old petrol engine I would have said the ign timing was retarded! All I need now is someone with vcds and the time to help me out

have a look in the vcds section, apparently there might be a map of members with it. not all will be able to do it though as you need the right plug , although yours being later may have an obd plug rather than the round sprinter type.

It's got the round plug, but I have an adapter somewhere!i played with a clone vcds lead for a while but gave up they aren't worth the agro,

Can dynamic timing go out of time by itself???

I don't know for sure, but if cam belts stretch?then I guess it can.

That's a point.
