Afternoon all
Im waiting to fit a load resistor to the registration lights wiring to prevent the error code on the dash due to an LED upgrade. Any ideas where to locate the wiring as the description for the product installation is very brief an is a generic guide...

I presume this is the panel where the 2 Allen bolts are where the handles are to pull the boot down?

Lift the bootlid, remove the plastic trim covering this which can be a bugger by itself, which gives you full access to wiring from behind, that would be best place to fit any resistor pack, so its got more air to disperse heat build up.

Tip for releasing the spring clips .. give the top corners a good tug, you can then see where the rest of the pesky little things are and where you need to tug again.
I never bothered with a long screwdriver, I just pulled it at an angle (I never broke the trim thankfully!) and they released.

I take it these spring clips Chris are to do with the plastic trim that NHN mentioned? Or Is this inside? The description you fellas have given are completely different to the installation instructions - fingers crossed it all makes sense when I get on with it.

Those spring clips are holding the boot trim on to the bootlid itself.
Hold on .. just reread the thread, I know on a Sportback there are two little flaps either side near the handle on the inside, these prise off and reveal (I assume) the reversing and brake lights?
I know they're there, but cant remember what the let you get to.

Okay so i have very little time to attack this in the evenings after work due to light constraints. I have re read the replies and i still cannot understand where the location of the number plate harness is? I have taken 2 pictures, the second picture i have taken off the 2 allen bolts to try and remove this lid, but it doesnt seem to unattach, i think its moulded in - i couldnt get it off.
are any of these the places you were referring to in your replies?

On the sportback there are two little flaps on the inner bootlid - shown below pic 1
When these are prised off it reveals some wiring (pic 2) which I can only assume is the reverse, indicator and fog connectors.

You didn't state whether you have a SB or 3 door but for 3 door I would guess you would need to remove the cluster itself as it doesn't integrate into the bootlid.

I have a 3 door Chris... An no like you say I don't have one of them sections in my boot. But I doubt they'd have the registration lights in this cluster would they?

Ok since you have a 3 door you will only have 1 reverse light built into the light cluster itself so you can stay away from the grey plastic.
I doubt there will be much room in the cluster itself so you could be stuck with the normal fillament bulb but no harm in trying.

I stuck these lamps on my 3 door a3 2006 few months back an had no error code at all. The only thing I have read that is slightly different is that I have reversing sensors which I've read could be a potential cause. Otherwise everything else is the same on my S3. I guess if i don't find a solution I will just have to put up with the error code on the dash.

I'm still struggling with this thread...
Ive tried many resistors on my lamp contacts and no joy, still chucking an error code on my 3dr S3 2011. I've read numerous wrote ups an forums about this subject an it seems one that is forever going on. Everyone that has a success sseems to have a sports back. Anyone who has a 3 door or 2011 car tried this mod? Or any other suggestions? I really don't want the normal filament lamps in

I've just tried today the OEM lights priced at £32 to see if these would eliminate the issue. Although these look really nice and just what I wanted the bleen 'lamp warning inducatin' still comes up. I definitely need to seek the correct resistor or find the cables to attach the load resistor in my 3 dr S3 2011. Frustrating!

I think in the end you're just gonna have to stick with stock!
Seems a lot of hassle for what it's worth imo
