This site is for VAG heads but it should be under the sill near the back of the car same side as where the pipe comes into the engine compartment

Thanks, wot do you mean by the sill?
Is it near tank?
do all petrol cars have filters?

he means sort of under the back seat under the car. do you have the new filter yet ? if its a metal cannister then it goes outside somewhere but a lot of newer heaps have a filter in the tank so the new filter is just a gauze bag thingy. so it will either be in the engine bay or underneath a the back, or in the tank.

The sill is the metal panel that runs under the door/s, a lot of petrol cars have filters most of them dirty, it's an inline filter near the tank looks like this Fuel Filter Service Peugeot 207 1.4 Hatchback -- [2006-2011] | eBay (http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Fuel-Filter-Service-Peugeot-207-1-4-Hatchback-2006-2011-/330713517977?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4d000fcf99#ht_1360wt_932)

yeah i have the new filter, its an in-line filter but its black plastic rather than metal.
ive checked uner the car extensively but cant find it.
i think i need to remove some panels and have a better look near the rear as you say, rather than a glance
