Fault code 17748

Ok where do I start? A4 2.0lt SE 2001 B6

I'm still truing to get to the bottom is my idle/running issues.
Hot or cold car runs very nicely when MAF is unplugged and very very roughly when plugged in (barely wants to start when cold).
Would suggest that the MAF is faulty Yes?

However the fault code coming up is 17748 - Camshaft Position Sensor (G40) / Engine Speed Sensor (G28): Incor. Correlation
P1340 - 001 - Upper Limit Exceeded

Timing marks are spot on Checked double checked and checked again!

So I run the car plugged in the VCDs run the measuring blocks but not sure what I'm looking at, perhaps someone can help explain

Is a Bosch any good? They're not cheap!

Bosch is OEM. Trade Part Specialists is where I buy all my VAG parts from. I bought a MAF from TPS about a year ago & it cost around £70 exchange.

Going to do timing belt and tensioners along with water pump tomorrow so that will just leave the crank or cam sensor. Other than that I have no idea:1zhelp:

Yes runs great no lag, missing or misfires that the bit I don't get? Well maybe further forward tomorrow after the belt gets done

According to Ross-Tech 17748 is related to to the timing belt/tensioner & cambelt sensor. As your replacing the belt & tensioner maybe that will sort it out.
Odd that it runs fine with the MAF unplugged though, I wonder whether you may a dodgy bit of wiring? Have you had VCDS/Vagcom back on it to see if any codes have come back?

Not had a chance yet but after the belt is done I'll check for any codes

New belt and water pump done and somehow cured, so i think either the timing must have been out even though I had checked it a few times or I've had a loose connection in the cam sensor but all seems good fingers crossed. I'll give it a good run out tomorrow just to make sure!
next is the heater. Very little hot air but I suspect that the system needs bled
will keep you all informed as to how things go:beerchug:

Temp reading from the CTS is odd. Should be approx 90ish C. A very common failure on VAG cars is the CTS failing, & supplying inaccurate temp to the ECU, which then doesn't fuel correctly. Looks like your ECU is seeing a temp of around 100 C on that log which will cause under fueling if the engine isn't actually as hot as that. Warm the engine up & have a look with VCDS at the temp the ECU is seeing, & check if your temp gauge is showing around the same. As long as the ECU is seeing a temp signal it won't throw a code which doesn't help things. For your info. The CTS is a dual output sensor i.e. 1 to the gauge & the other to the ECU. Anyone experiencing start up & or idle problems should check the CTS first. VAG had so many problems with the old black CTS failing that they revised the part to what is commonly referred to as the green CTS, which is about £25 for a genuine VAG part. A lot of people make the mistake of replacing the CTS with a cheap pattern part, but they rarely work correctly or in some cases at all.
