i had the gap between the engine buikheads where the battery sits fill up with water and freeze so dead battery on replacing i noticed a clear tube in a black coragated outer laying behind the battery where does the end of the tube go and what does it do as at present it apears to come off a connection somewhere since the flood the centrall locking is not working and the central dash display characters apear broken up the car is a a4 2000 w reg

ihope someone can help a the car deserves saving regards mrplastic

You've found the the plenum chamber. :zx11:

Take the battery out and thoroughly clean the area with a light detergent and plenty water. The water drains down the front of the bulkhead and onto the under trays, then onto the road. The rubber grommets are prone to blocking with leaves, etc. When blocked the brake servo or ECU can become submerged. Personally I'd remove the grommets, or at the very least cut them down.

i think the tube you're referring too is the drain under the wipers. That water drains into the plenum chamber.

Some batteries have an expansion tube too

If its a small gauge clear pipe with a black outer sleeve.The clear pipe fits on the breather elbow on the right hand side of the battery.
