View Full Version : Creamy dipstick and oil filler cap

Checking my car the other day before a journey I noticed white goop on the dipstick and on the oil filler cap. Alarm bells obviously as I always thought this was a sign of the head gasket being gone. The only time I seen it before was on the inside of a breather I was changing to cure a problem with the car revving at idle last year.
I don't seem to be losing any coolant, nor is it discoloured, and the var never strays off 90 degrees when driving. Is there anything else that would cause this? Car is a 2.0TFSI with a BWA engine. Thanks.

Yeah, up to noticing it I would have done no more than a 5 or 6 mile journey at a time form the past month or two.

It could be vater vapor condensing as it would need a good run at 60 or 70 for half an hour

aye, a good run will be needed. if you have no reason to go for a drive, find one.

It is a condensation as above been said.Doing short journeys u have to change oil more often.

Good to know, cheers all. I'll give the oil a change and take it on some longer runs more regularly.

As an aside to this, are these engines known for using a drop of oil? I would need to put in near half a litre every 4000 miles to keep the dipstick in the middle.

They leak a little oil, burn a little oil and turn a little oil into sludge!
