Noticed oil leakage from the EGR valve and opened up the intake pipes coming from the intercooler. I found a lot of oil in the pipes so I suspect that there is a nice little pool of oil after accumulating in the bottom of the intercooler. The car has done 115K miles and is a 130BHP quattro SE avant. I know that I can remove the intercooler if I want to go to the hassle of moving the bumper/carrier forward to service position, however I was wondering if it was possible to simply disconnect the air-in pipe to the intercooler and let the accumlated oil just pour out before reconnecting it up again and hopefully putting an end to the oil leakage for the time being until another pool of oil builds up? I believe it is fairly normal for the oil to accumulate in the intercooler over time on these engines.
I do have one of those oil suction kits for sucking out the engine oil at oil change time, if I undid the hose leading from the top of the intercooler could I drop the suction pipe ( about 5mm diameter) down into the intercooler and would it get to the accumulated oil or is there some sort of matrix in the intercooler which would prevent that?
