16s wont fit over the brakes on your 3.0

17" and upwards are needed but yes, get the tyres at the minimum, i fitted a set to my a3 last week and i can feel the difference in feel, braking and grip in the colder temperature and on the salty, greasy roads.

Have to disagree with Chris, I have a 58 plate 3.0tdi s-line and it's been wearing 16 inch steels with winter tyres for the last month without any problem, got them as a wheel / tyre combo through mytyres.

If you're not sure check the edge of the drivers door, there's a silver plate which has the permissable tyre & wheel sizes and combinations for that car, which will include winter tyres, listed as M+S.

I purchased Michelin Alpin PA4 245 45 18 as they fit my standard alloys which to be honest i am happy with. Various tests seem to rate them at the top places. The youtube video of them on a Porsche is worth watching.

They cost £205 each and £60 total for the tyre hotel!!! No place for me to store at home. They do make a real difference in the cold to as Chris says. I am really impressed so far down to 0 degrees they feel as good as the summer tyres did in normal temperatures.

Cheers

Thats certainly the case on the A6 C6 but didn't know it never applied to other models.
