Been thinking about where to put the car in for the first service. I have a great independent garage around the corner who I have used for years for my other cars. Is there any real advantage in going to a dealer? For example can only a dealer carry out software updates?

Do they use genuine parts?

If not say goodbye to your warranty.

It's good to build up a good relationship with your dealer btw. Can come in handy for different things.

Also Audi will do all software updates and any recalls.

Makes sense to use the dealer during warranty; I've found the bills have always been reasonable and there's little goes wrong in the early years that's not covered by a warranty.

Outside warranty I use a local VW/Audi specialist.

Yes to genuine parts. So I'll be missing out on recalls and software updates.

Will look into costs for independent as Audi costs are fairly set. If there is not much in it then probably go for Audi as it will be less hassle, which is always worth a few pounds in my book.

Also building a good custom with them will help you out of warranty aswell and most of the time you get discount on a service too.

I can second this. My local dealership have had my TT for over a month to sort out a rattle which in fairness, they had tried to fix whilst under warranty. Nevertheless, they took it back after the warranty expired without a quibble and put me in a loan TT........ Which I'm still in! I don't think the local indie would match this.
As for the A6? Mrs Lady is happily "wafting" around in it.......... The closest I get to it is when I walk past it on the drive!!! :sadwavey:

My dealer was very keen to point out that there would be an amount of good will available in years 4 and 5 should anything serious occur, especially if miles were low - they have to stand by the product to a degree otherwise word gets out quick in this modern age.

That said, they will probably only get one or two services out of me!
