View Full Version : Servotronic and "bending light"

This is the last thread for now I promise :P
I have just decoded the features on my A6. There are two features that I didn't know I had, and that I didn't have on the old one:
1N3 = Speed-related variable steering assist (Servotronic)
I noticed that my steering feels quite heavy and put this down to having an S-line (Le Mans) model. Surely if I had Servotronic it would feel quite light? Any way to tell it's definately working?
8Q5 = Headlight-range adjustment, automatic/ dynamic with dynamic bending light (AFS 1)
I did notice that I've lost the old manual adjustment I had in the old car, but how does the new one work? I don't see any settings for my headlights now. Are they fully automatic? I never noticed the light bending :)

Servotronic is lighter at slower speeds and heavier at higher speeds
I take it you have Xenon on your car? The automatic adjustment is done by the computer and your AFS is indeed the light turns with the steering wheel.

Yup, it has Xenon, that's awesome about the light turning. I had heard about this feature but didn't know I had it. I think whoever specced this car might have had rather a lot of money. I wish they'd gone for the Adaptive Cruise Control though :P

Hello, I also decoded features of my A6 recently and found that the car is equipped with 8Q5 = Headlight-range adjustment, automatic/ dynamic with dynamic bending light (AFS 1).
I have Xenon lights in my car. If I start my car when it's dark, lights go Down and Up, but NOT Left and Right. I aslo can not see lights to bend while I'm driving.. I don't get any faults on dash, module 55-Xenon range is also all OK on VCDS..
Is there any trick to activate dynamic lights? Or maybe information on the sticker in the boot is incorrect? How to find out if my car is equipped with dynamic bending lights?
Thanks a lot ;)

Does the beam bend when you turn the wheel while driving?

No, I don't think so. I also tried moving steering wheel while stationary in front of the wall and beam did not bend. Is it activated at certain speed intervals?

I doubt it happens at standstill.

I thought so also, just tried.. So, should I see some kind of "Dance" of lights when I start my car, like Down Up Left Right? How can I check it on VCDS, which module would it be?
Thanks

Look in the coding and adaption channels of Xenon Range.
No idea sorry as I have halogen but I know non-afs xenons do the up and down.

Yes, my lights does Down and Up thingy.. I'll dive into Ross Tech Wiki, maybe I'll figure out something. It's just weird why there is 8Q5 code on the sticker but I can't see this feature functioning.
Anyway, thanks for any info ;)

Ok, so maybe Audi didn't do wright coding.. on module 09-Centre Electronics there is coding for Bi-Xenon Headlights with AFS. I'll check what's the coding on the module 09 in my car. Is it safe to experiment with this coding, let's say, I'll find my current coding with Bi-Xenon Headlights, can I try changing coding to Bi-Xenon Headlights with AFS???
Thanks in advance

Yep try changing it, everything is reversible if it all goes wrong.

Hi Darius R :) ...
Here is a section of a VCDS log, xenons with AFS ...

Here is section of my car's log which just has xenons without AFS ...

As you can see the module 55 (J431) differ in hardware ...
So I think you must have AFS if your data sticker have the PR code you have posted ...
Google for SSP 326 , view page 32 ...
No pivoting when vehicle is stationary
The projection modules are not pivoted at driving
speeds of < 6 km/h.
If you do have correct hardware/coding then I would believe via the 'basic output' test in module 55 you will be able to test the various functions of the headlights ...

Ok, fist of all thanks for your replies.
I connected VCDS and connected to module 55, so for sure I have adaptive lights with AFS, as it clearly states that. So went to adaption and activated Showroom mode.
So now I can see Lights bending together as I move my steering wheel while standstill. So, probably I just didn't realize lights bending while driving..
Is it OK if I leave Showroom ON?
Once again, thanks for help

Showroom option is obviously for showing the feature while the car is stationary. It will probably go off itself.

No, it won't go off itself, you need to switch it OFF manually the same way ;)

A6_Chris, you were wright. Showroom mode switched OFF itself after driving home from work yesterday. Anyway, at least I know this option is doing it's function properly.
Thanks to all
