I don't think Audi do an AMI cable for the iPhone 5 yet. You will need an adapter from the old style to new style connector, but I don't know if these support video?

There's no iPhone 5 cable yet.

My hope was that I could get an ami USB cable then connect iPhone 5 with iPhone 5 cable to that like connecting to a pc.

I don't have ami cable so wondered if anyone had tried and was worth buying

All reports suggest that the Apple old to new iPod connector does not support video so unlikely to get video to play that way until Audi come up with their own cable. I also believe this is the case if you use a standard USB connector

Here some insight from our US cousins on what can and cannot be achieved with the iPhone5 and MMI iPhone 5 may have issues with AMI - AudiWorld Forums (http://forums.audiworld.com/showthread.php?t=2833738)

Using the 30pin adapter mine works 100% ok for audio from the iPhone5. I haven't tried spotify or anything like that though.

...also I don't think you can watch streamed video via AMI even with an iPhone 4 or 4S. It is only possible to access video files stored in the relevant folders on the iPhone (ie it has been added to the phone via iTunes). OK for films etc but if your plan was to watch live tv from iPlayer or similar then you will be out of luck

I was hoping that I could get streaming video onto the ami. I have been interested in getting tv but would not use enough to warrant £500 or more on it as a retrofit. Wonder if there is any device that can play streaming video as an output then connect to ami?

This would allow iplayer etc.

Hi - resurrecting an old thread.

Took delivery of my A6 on Friday. The AMI only came with the blue cable and the USB, however I went back to the dealer today and they swapped me a red one for video. I'd read on here that streaming wasn't possible however like most things I thought I'd try all the options..... I quickly confirmed it worked with a couple of iTunes music videos that were on the iPhone 4 - I then went back to the phone and fired up iPlayer & clicked on the first programme available which was something that was on last night....... to my surprise it interrupted the video that was playing and lo and behold I had BBC video steaming to the car, audio and video no problem. The video took a few seconds to render properly, much the same as it does on the phone over 3G however it soon settled down and I watched the first couple of mins while sitting in the dealership car park. I stopped it by basically moving the car, stuck it in reverse and the parking sensor screen came up (audio still streaming) and then when I went forward I got the display telling me video doesn't display while moving.

All good I thought. Problem is, trying it again I can't now seem to get it to work again (!)

When I do it again it seems to play audio only. Still streams the audio from BBC, but try as I might I can't get the video to come across. Any thoughts?

Managed to get it to work again. It's temperamental..... it only seems to stream video if its currently displaying video. Selecting an iTunes video that is on the iPhone memory and then playing that - then interrupt it by going on to iPlayer on the phone and playing a show - the video interrupts and starts playing the stream.

also works with air video sender.... which is great for streaming movies and TV shows that I have on my computer at home.....great little iPhone app that allows streaming from a home based computer/server.

Abulbanat

Was this with iPhone 4 or 5? Think you mention 4 but I have 5.
Thanks for add this, interesting that this works with air app.

I have the 4 Andy.

Was playing about with it today - seems the early temperamental issues are gone, works fine streaming video from both iPlayer & Air Video Sender.

I think the main problems with this are getting the iPhone 5 to work which is mainly due to Audi not having a 5 cable get. I was hoping to get around this with the USB or component cables but don't think that would work well.

Good that streaming works in principle.
