On way home i checked in to garage as i only had 20miles left.
Oh crap! No wallet! No mobile!
Im 45 miles away with 20 on the clock :O
Had to chance it...guage does drop quicker the less fuel in i think, and with several miles gone...0 miles, stil bout 25 miles to go.
Well we done it,thank god,was waiting for judder...
I do hate the dis gauge. Rises as quick as it falls. But its bloody hard to ignore.
Manual fuel gauge :-) was boarder line on the nearest red.
Wander how far i cld of gone after dis says no miles left?

As you found out tonight, 25 miles after it hits 0 shouldn't be a problem - unless you hit nightmarish traffic of course. I've done it plenty of times, but agreed, it is squeaky bum time the first time :1zhelp:. I'm sure I've read in a Top Gear magazine that they've had a challenge before to see who dared go furthest & they'd got 40 or 50 miles, that's some years ago & memory is hazy though. I don't think I'd want to risk 40 miles though, way too chicken for that lol. I doubt letting it get too low is too good for the engine either, especially if you use standard fuel and god forbid supermarket fuel.

Lol.....I know how you feel.
I took it down to zero miles left to go some time ago when filling brim to brim and using figures for fuelly account. I havea post about it somewhere and between the brimming method, manual calculations and fuell its really accurate.
To be honest I guess its all down to how to how you've drove the car and what mpg you are getting, as a factor.
If you've thrashed it whatever fuel you have left may get you 40 miles but could possibly get you 70 etc.
When I was at zero miles I was getting a little nervous......not keen on taking it down so low.
However, as you can see below from my workings, technically speaking had I carried on at the same mpg / conditions I probably had another 100 miles left, had I dropped the hammer and went for it I may have got 60 miles.....allrelevant I guess.

"I managed 750.2 miles on a full tank and refulled to witihin a penny at £104.01 for 70.8 litres of Shell V Power
On the basis that there was 9.2 litres ( 2.03 gallons ) left in reserve and at 51.2mpg that equates to a total possible of 854 mile range
Feul consumption figures for our cars are
33.2mpg urban
60.1mpg extra urban
46.3mpg combined"
Cheers
