Sevice schedule question

My car is currently on about 106k miles, when I bought it a month ago I was told it is due for a service in January - is this a scheduled service or just the usual yearly service to change filters/fluids/etc that any car has?

Also, what is the actual service schedule, like what will need doing at what milage?
