After egr delete my running temps r not going over or barley 70. Thrash it up a hill in gets to 90 but cruising brings it below 70.
on filling tank mileage b4 always crept up. Yesterday was 1st fill up,£60 showed 460,after driving 20 miles usually the gauge creeps up,so from 460 and 20 miles later its down to 380!

heater seems ok. 25deg seems warm and hi seems hotish.
fuel gauge seems on par with display, running to quick?

any ideas, someone suggested small hole in blank, at this rate think il convert back to normal.
does seen more responsive and smoother though since blank.

Failed thermostat, nothing to do with the EGR delete.

....If only I was as smart as this bloody phone

Ok,this is an easy cheap fix I believe?
thought the egr helped warm up the engine, takes forever to get to 70,like 15-20 mins at cruising.

so a new thermo will sort out all the above? Rough price n time please gents?

If it's anything like the 1.8T It is £80 for the stat and housing, and is quite involved to fix, not something recommended to a novice mechanic. (not saying you're a novice :) )

What engine do you have ? If it's a 1.9 Tdi then it's easy, if a v6 then it's behind the cambelt- sadly not a easy job to do !

Actually the action of EGR is to lower combustion chamber temperatures to reduce the levels of NOX emissions.

Ok so I've drilled a hole in my blank plate as som1 suggested this will remove the light.
no joy?
even if I go back to normal, do I still need fault cleared?

if it ain't broke don't fix it!!!

You will have to clear the code.

What fault code was causing the light to come on? If the EGR was properly deleted on the ECU it wont put on the MIL light. Drilling a small hole in it fools the ECU into thinking there's a big hole near the EGR so no MIL. Either it wasn't done properly or there's another problem

Hmmm, not sure,i seen the unit pluged in n briefly saw something on display about egr,and saw him clear the code.
So it needs to b deleted?
Thought clearing code and the small hole was the way forward...
Cars already mapped, since all this my thermostat not working, low temps.

Booked into garage sat to fix a squeeky noise (belt tensioner) and thermo.
Is there anythink else i can do that im not doin with this egr? Besides the map out.
Been quoted £585 for the full dmf change. Which will b soon i reckon.

Thanks again for everyones input :-)

You need someone to map it (EGR) off the ecu, I think it can be turned down using VCDS, the drilled hole worked better on older cars. Good price for the DMF

I get stressed with people removing emissions devices, especially when it causes all sorts of problems that generate the same questions on here over and over and over again.

Tut that was mild. Most spanner jockeys could make a sailor blush

Its the stress of the job, parts wrong or not turning up, cars fighting back, owners driving you mad, I should have done something less stressful like brain surgeon or something!

Not by any stretch all of them but you only need to have a dozen people who are as nice as can be with one how is an absolute **** for no good reason other than they were born that way and your heart sinks to your stomach and you struggle to lift yourself back up. I have been doing this job for 30 years and I have developed a base of customers who are absolute stars such as Ken the biscuit man, Albrecht, Kevin W, Mr Rudkin and dozens more I could mention but some come along who make you doubt your faith in the human race.

A little learning is a dangerous thing; Alexander Pope. The people that know FA and want it to stay like that are usually the best people to deal with. There's something unbelievably irritating about being told how to do something by someone that doesn't know how to do in the first place
