Just a quick one,

My misses has just paid a deposit on a the above. After trawling a few forums and websites it seems that the Ibiza's are a little temperamental to say the least, she has bought this car as a CAT D stolen recovered all fully repaired however to my surprise she later added that the car has no history on a V5 present. Its come from a dealer who has offered a 3 month warranty which also supposedly covers the cam belt?!?!?! now call me cynical or negative (as she described it) but this seems like Russian roulette, the car has done 126k and according to her runs as sweet as a nut.

now i have only ever owned Audi's so i know nothing about Seat except that they are VAG and i am going to pop along with her tomorrow to pick it up question is should I be smacking this bloke in the face and getting her deposit back and oh i forgot to mention she has put her A2 1.4 TDI in as part ex:zx11:

All opinions would be greatly appreciated!

It's travelled the equivalent of once around the earth every year since it was made and has NO history, I'd let it be someone else's troubles.

do yourself a favour, don't let her go car shopping again.
seats are good, like a golf but cheaper, but imho not as good as a skoda.
this one may have a full history and been serviced twice as many times as needed and could be the bargain of the century, but i wouldn't take the chance, its not as if its a sellers market.

Not overly cheap for a crashed high miler with no history.

looks like she better choose again! She was originally going on about a MK5 SDI but I had to talk her out of that idea!

I used to threaten people with the heavies, when the debtors saw the wife, her sister and her mother they usually paid up

My two penneth worth would be that your o/h is parting with a car that's got reasonable p/x value for a car that hasn't. Will she be running it into the ground, or will she be part exing this one in a couple of years? If she'll be swapping again in a couple of years you can bet your bottom dollar that the dealer will screw you down on p/x value due to it being Cat D, but they won't take that much off it when selling it to your Missus this time. I'd give it a wide bearth as Zoll & Paul have suggested (and it sounds like you already think yourself). It just depends on the amount of deposit you'll lose & the amount of grief you'll get from the o/h if you try to put your foot down ;).

Thanks for the input, I know in my heart of hearts it's the wrong thing TOTALLY! We went through this with the A2 she done that "oh I really want it" thing she's had it 3 months and the decided its not the car she thought it was as she does a lot of motorway driving (no /:@: Sherlock!)

So inevitably as I have advised her if she really wants it, it's on her head be it, and she will defo run it into the ground, her cars always end up as the kids dumping ground lol as for me putting my foot down she can do one! Lol

Something tells me this thread was more about venting frustration & incredulity than about asking if it's a good move. I know the feeling well pal, when a woman's mind is made up, there's nothing can be done about it ;).

My sympathies mate & yes, I'll be watching for your update in expectation of the inevitable purchase. The really annoying thing is women usually turn out to be proved right! So you'll end up with the car which drives great & goes on to clock up 300k miles lol.

If it was my Missus buying it, knowing that she knows nothing about cars but loves property market programmes, I'd put it in terms of selling a perfectly good 2 bed terraced & buying a steel construction prefab that'll be unsellable so she'll actually be moving down the housing ladder. Or if your Missus is into shoes, it's the equivalent of swapping a used pair of Jimmy Choos for a pair of re-soled Clarks. Hopefully the shoes analogy will strike a chord lol.

Apologies if I'm talking sh!te, had a few beers with the football tonight :alcoholic

An old mechanic told me years ago about a customer with a Morris 1100. When the wife drove it the car misfired was sore on petrol and basically was horrible to drive. When the husband drove the car it was fine, but the husband didn't keep the choke partly pulled out to hang a handbag on...

UPDATE..........

Right, we drove up to Nottingham to have a look at this round the world right off lol, to my surprise as I pulled into the dealer this quite good looking red FR bumper and grille was smiling at me, 1:0 to her! So me being me, had a butchers around and found every panel to be straight and no shoddy bodged repairs 2:0 to her now things we're looking bleak for me at this point so I pulled the ace from my sleeve, the good old OBD scanner! The dealer nearly kacked himself and ran into his office, scanned it and guess what NO CODES! 3:0 to her, started the car up, pured like a diesel lol quiet no knocks or rattles, at this point I was about to throw the towel in. The question still posed about the history, and as women do, in front of the sales man she said "oh don't worry I'll get the belt changed next week" so at 4:0 I gave up and told her if she wants the thing then just have it, so with that she paid the bloke and we drove off into the sunset,

But wait! The plot thickens, I open the glove and what do I find..................a full service history with 2x cambelt changes documented, the repair docs from a company called ADR and the original Seat sales reciepts and handover docs,

What can I say to that really???????????

''yes darling, you can choose our next car, love you, here are some choccy's and flowers as way of an apology'' might do for a start.

What happened was, she winged that she wanted a new motor over the weekend, so being the kind and loving guy that I am I went out on Sunday morning and did all the work on the A2, the she decides she wants it on the auto trader. I put it on Sunday and didn't get a call, so by Tuesday she went on her travels and found the seat. So she agreed to part chop the A2, once the deal was done the phone started ringing, now ain't that a byyyyatttcchhhh!!!!!!!

That's what he means. Dealer gave them £1850 for the A2 p/x price & they added a grand to cover the £2850 Seat. If they'd waited another day, they'd have got £3k for the A2 from a private buyer. If I've got that right, that's got to sting.

Ah well, no point looking back at what could've been. You've got a car that you both now like & more importantly you've got a happy Missus & some brownie points.
