Excessive oil consumption is usually related to at least one of the following:

1: Worn cylinder bores
2: Worn pistons
3: Worn piston rings
4: Worn valve guides
5: Worn valve stem oil seals
6: Worn/damaged crankshaft oil seal
7: Leaking gasket on any of the engine parts

If there are NO oil leaks what so ever then its either a top end rebuild, a full engine rebuild, or a front end off jobbie to replace the crankshaft oil seal. What's the mileage? Have you any service history/works carried out etc?

Oil leaks can take an age to locate or even see, I would advise placing a piece of cardboard under the front end of the car over night and see if there are any spots of oil, repeat this for a few nights and if there are still no oil spots then it's more than likely one of the above, bar a leaking gasket!

How much oil do you need to top up by every 500 miles?

Cheers

James

These engines do burn a bit of oil plus they hold less than 4 liters including filter. Of course it could the the rear crank seal....

Maybe someone is having a laugh and letting a bit out of the drain plug every now and again!
