Hey guys, my daily beater TDi estate has a few niggles. Hoping someone can answer them for me :)
1. Climate control display seems to be intermittent. Easy fix or will it be a replacement job?
2. Radio seems to have a contant live, is there a simple way of addressing this?
3. Interior light seems to stay on when in open door mode. Which is a pain, is this a common issue?
4. Spotted a little dampness in the passenger footwell, could see water which looked to be dripping down the plastic trim next to the door. Is this more likely sunroof or bulkhead related?

Water in the cabin seems to cause all sorts of grief.
First job is to check both scuttle drains, if they are clear, then check the aircon drain isn't blocked.
Once you've sorted the water ingress, try and dry the car and then see if you still have electrical issues

The climate control display is easy to get from a breaker or fleabay, You can connect the radio to acc so it switches off with the car, bit fiddly but not hard. Check plenum chamber drains and check seal on the pollen filter both can cause water inside the car. The comfort control module that controls interior lights etc is under the front passenger carpet. You need to dry out the car and find the leak, some of the loom going to the CCM can fray and corrode check the wires and splice a new piece in any dodgy ones. Scan with VCDS and treat yourself to a beer

As above your plenum chamber sounds like its blocked, remove your battery and tray to get to it and unblock it.

Water in the passenger footwell could be the heater matrix, taste it if it is sweet the matrix is leaking 9 hours plus and complete dashboard removal ( I've just done it on mine), other than that is may be that the cover for the pollen filter is not fitted correctly and water is getting in via the heater blower

Give this man a beer! Good post :)
LOL
I did think getting a replacement would be easier than sorting mine.
I am going to check all the drains along the front scuttle panel at the weekend when I get my tools back from my brother. I think the car has had water issues before. The seller said that the windscreen would condensate from time to time but he cleaned out around the battery and it doesn't now. I think the guy before he got it let lots of water soak the electrics under the passenger floor :) What exactly does the comfort control module control? Is it just the interior lights or is it more? Could my dodgy heater screen be a duff signal coming from it too?
Safe to say I've only had it 5 days and for £650 its been rather good :) I don't think its the heater matrix as its not loosing coolant and also, the water drops (and little trail) was on the trim just in front of the passenger door, to the lower left of the glovebox.

A dirty wet pollen filter will cause condensation like a clapped out tumble dryer

I attacked this at the weekend. Got under the battery and pollen filter cleared. Under the windscreen was filthy.
Only issue I have is I can't find anything to clear out the rear sun roof drains. What have you guys used?

I know this sound like a post from the "what colour is it" brigade but you clear them by taking off the back bumper they drain into the wheel arch

I thought it was the front of the rear arches.
My question is more related to what tools did you use? I can find drain cleaners buy don't want to burst the rubber hose. I need long pipe cleaners but I can't find anything more than about 50cm.

halfords rear brake cable for a bike with the end covered with a little insulating tape or shrink wrap
