right where to start, was on the phone to the girlfriend the other day and she told me the oil light kept flashing on, so talked her throught topping up the oil , she then told me a few days later that it didnt feel like the car was pulling right while on boost, so had a mate look at the car tonight and it seems there is oil leaking from the intercooler and he thinks the seal has gone on the compressor............... so i think i will be needing a new turbo , ive found this
K04-015 Turbo Audi A4 A6 VW 1.8L 1.8 Upgrade K03 Turbocharger 53049880015 210HP | eBay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/K04-015-Turbo-Audi-A4-A6-VW-1-8L-1-8-Upgrade-K03-Turbocharger-53049880015-210HP-/140822245407?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item20c9a8f01f)
only question is can i replace the turbo with this and will it need a remap , what will happen if i dont get it remapped etc?

a small bit of oil around the boost pipes is quite normal but i would check the turbo for play in the bearings. what is more worrying is the oil light coming on. it might be an idea to drop the sump and give it all a good clean. if you do a search you will find your engine is prone to oil problems.

doh well i am nowhere near my car at the moment so i think things are going to have to wait, think the problem is defo with the turbo reason i think this is due to the car not pulling well so the plan was to get the uprated turbo, get a mate to install it, recon the old turbo and sell that just want to see if the i can run the turbo without re-mapping it, then when i get home to it if there is no more leaks get an intercooler and new exhaust system then get it re-mapped

fair play. when the new turbo goes the same way, and not until then, please refer back to my previous post about sludge problems with the 1.8t.

Did you check the quite likely to fail N75 valve first?

the only reason i cant touch the car is because i am in Afghanistan
i will get the sump cleaned and new a oil filter plus more fresh oil before i buy a turbo then
also i have no idea what the N75 valve is

N75 controls the turbo boost, it will show on a scan, sludge is quite likely anyway but easy if messy to clean

Assuming you're out there with the Forces and not on holiday - thanks for doing what you do.

Welcome Steve, it may not be the n75 but a quick scan will tell and they're cheap compared to a turbo
