Hi
I have a 2002 52 Plate Audi A6 TDI 1.9 with 159,000 on the clock and although i love the car i now have the most annoying fault. I keep getting the message 'AIR BAG' light on the dash board. I have used VAGCOM and i get this..

VCDS-Lite Version: Release 1.1
Thursday, 13 September 2012, 19:16:44.
Control Module Part Number: 4B0 959 655 P
Component and/or Version: Airbag 8.4EP 2002
Software Coding: 0001106
Work Shop Code: WSC 02325
VCID: 3D0DBAF7247F
1 Fault Found:
00588 - Airbag Igniter; Driver Side (N95)
001 - Upper Limit Exceeded - Intermittent

Any ideas where to start with repairing this fault, i can clear the code and go for weeks without it popping up but now it is getting annoying and i suppose i must look into it.Any advice greatfully recieved.

Scot.

Update:
The word intermittent is now missing and it wont clear, looks like the fault is permenant!

1 Fault Found:
00588 - Airbag Igniter; Driver Side (N95)
001 - Upper Limit Exceeded

I have also now found that the volume controls and the change CD button on the streering wheel doesnt work. I suspect a Clockring. Any ideas on how easy they are to change and does anyone know of a local garage that will fix it ? I would attempt but i just dont have the time !

Thanks.

The ross tech wiki says that fault code is:

Possible Causes

Wiring from/to Airbag Igniter Driver Side (N95) faulty
Coil Spring with Slip Ring (F138) faulty
Airbag Igniter Driver Side (N95) faulty

Possible Solutions

Check Wiring from/to Airbag Igniter Driver Side (N95)
Check Coil Spring with Slip Ring (F138)
Check Airbag Igniter Driver Side (N95)

Special Notes

When "Short to positive" or "Short to ground" is found, DO NOT CLEAR THE DTC. This can cause the airbag to deploy. See repair manual for more information.

If you've also got MFSW problems with the radio buttons, then you might be right to suspect the slip rings.

There's a useful thread about steering wheel and airbag removal - here (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?33437-A6-Steering-Wheel-Removal)

Local garage in Nottinghamshire - Crasher's garage is in Nottingham - C & R Enterprises (http://www.candrenterprises.co.uk/) They're a bit too far away from me, but lots of people here would recommend them, and Crasher's advice here is invaluable.
