Car is 2001 (B5) A4 2.5 TDI quattro sport avant. It has convenience footwell lights in front and safety door lights which illuminate. Noticed the other day the passenger front footwell light had stopped working and door light too. All other lights including driver's side footwell light, door lights and interior lights work.

Stripped out door card and checked wiring. Seems fine with no chaffing. Checked it as far back as 16 pin connector in passenger footwell (which was dry) as I know rear window washer pipe can detach here. Also swapped door light for working door light, still no success. Checked the door light with multimeter so no 12v supply, although signal was not zero, but as good as.

When the passenger door is opened the interior lights work and it shows on the dash. Could it be a door micro switch?

Also read something on a US forum out relay 382 - but there's no relay 382 behind dash?

Any help appreciated - I'm stumped!

Sorted.

The interior light flickered when the passenger door was opened. And the door open symbol on the DIS wouldn't display. Stripped out the door today and accessed the lock itself. The microswitch was playing up. Gave it a good clean, light spray of WD40 and reassembled. Now everything works as it should.
