Engine started cutting out randomly - Number of potential culprits as already described in previous threads - lift pump, crank speed sensor, relays etc.
Eventually found the problem. Lift pump (in the tank) was gradually failing. Swarf was found in the tank (slowly munching itself to pieces?). Problem persisted even with new lift pump. Logical thinking led my mechanic to believe the original pump put enough strain on the electrical wire (live feed) from the ECU to the pump to cause it to eventually burn out.
New wiring from the ECU to the pump solved the problem.
