error code gone - still not right?

hi all,

an ongoing saga for my 98 s4. basically lumpy idle and stuttering on accelleration.

changed both EGT sonsors and coolant temp sensor still the car is not right.

with gendan cable and vcds lite I was not getting any codes on engine 1 section.

just now I did get a code it was something like

oxygen (lambda) sensor Heating B2 S1: Open circuit

there was another P???? code with it but would be just guessing at that.

I say something like that as I cleared the code and ran the engine again to see if it came back it hasn't as yet.

I assume this refers to Bank 2 (UK Passenger Side) S1 pre cat sensor yes?

wish I hadn't cleared the codes now...

think I will teke it round the b lock to see if the codes come back.

bank 2 lambda sensor is looking a bit low huh? is bank 2 UK passenger side?

is this a change required? new snesor?

Right,

the lambda error code has not come back. only came back when I ahd disconnected both in the engine bay.

this I think discounts the lambda sensors. And reading abit more about them I see that the lower the figure the better as the figure shows how much extra fuel is needed to be put in to keep harmony. so both are way off.

this then leads me back to plugs and coils.

I am going to get a second hand working coil pack tomorrow and fit that in turn to each plug aqnd see aht happens. I will also get NEW plugs. If I find that it is the plugs then 5 quid for a second hand ,coil pack wont be a loss. if I change the plugs and the second hand pack does the job, then I know which one it is and will by a new one to replace that. then each month replace another until they are all replaced. cant afford another 200 quid in one hit!!!

does anyone have any other suggestions for the symptoms of running lumpy and stuttery accelleration as if missing?...

changed plugs and dodgy coils all fine apart from MAF connector is knackered.
