View Full Version : Can audi navigation plus RNS-E be retrofitted to a A4 B7 to replace the Audi Concert CD player
Hi
question as above. Can navigation plus be retrofitted ?
If so , can anyone recommend someone in the birmingham area to do the job ?

Yes it can and it's easy to do yourself.
The RNSE is plug 'n' play with a bit of coding and the gps aerial is placed above the glovebox.
Make sure you get a 'square' faced unit not a rounded top one as this is for the A3 and won't fit in the space.

Thanks. I found this on eBay , pls delete if inappropriate :

Is £579 a fair price ? I need it for a 2006/7 A4 ie. previous shape A4

That's what you need - if you don't want to spend £579 you can get the MK1 for significantly less
The difference to tell is that the Mk1 has a CD/TV button beside the RADIO button and the MK2 has a MEDIA button.
The screen is higher res on the MK2 and is slightly faster.
And yes, that is a fair price for a 'square' 193 model.
I need it for a 2006/7 A4 ie. previous shape A4, so it's appropriate for that ?
Also while on the subject of retrofits , is it possible to retrofit heated seats to an existing full leather interior ?

Yep that's perfect for your B7.
Not sure on that as I assume a new AC panel with Seat heating controls and loads of wiring will be needed and of course the heating elements for the two seats.
edit - bigcol done a retrofit here - http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?79203-A6-C5-Avant-heated-seat-retro-fit-(front-and-rear)

I installed the AMI in my 2008 A6 which was pretty much plug and play too.

First time poster!
This thread looks to be exactly what I want to do to my B7 A4 avant? I want to replace the Mk1 RNS-E nav unit with the Mk2 but Only if the Mk2 unit supports SDHC cards (ideally 32gb ones) for my tunes? Currently it can handle 2Gb cards but I've to a lot of music!? Can you guys confirm?
Cheers

Great! Thank you Chris
The Mk 1 will also support 4Gb non-HC SD cards, if you can find any.
Cheers!

I just saw a 55 reg A4 with concert CD player. I was trying to get my head around how the sat nav would go in its place. There doesnt seem to be much room between the AC controls and the hazard warning light , where the CD is situated. are you absolutely sure the rns will fit in any a4 B7 with concert cd player ? thanks.

Yes 100% sure.
If the Concert is double DIN like this - its a straight swap
If its a single DIN like the second picture you will need a single to double din conversion
Double din

Single din

Nice pictures. Thanks for posting those.
The car I saw today was the single din one. Where are the slots for removing the unit , I can't spot them like i can on the double din ?
Is a din conversion a major change and expensive ?

everything you need is in this post Installing RNS-E to single din A4 (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?133332-Installing-RNS-E-to-single-din-A4&p=722436#post722436)
I don't think din conversion is for my feint heart ;-)
I think I will need to make sure the A4 SE I find has a double din as well as heated seats, as you said its a straight swap for the RNS nav plus unit that way . Or of course it should already have the navigation plus .
