Is the model "GT TDi" an actual VW model? I'm looking at a lot of cars advertised as GT TDi but they're not badged as that and its in the log book simply as a Golf. How can I tell?
The car in particular is a 52 130TDi so maybe they're all GT's?
Thanks,
Dave.

you're pretty new here so ill let you off with this one ;) try a search for 'badges' youll see how much this has been discussed mate...
now, basically, any 130 or 150 bhp golf will be a 'GT' tdi....although the 150 is usually badged as a 'GTI' as it is, in essence, the 'true' GTI of the TDI's.
ignore any badges on a car, the only true way to tell a car's power is from the 3 digit engine code found on the timing belt cover, on the white sticker in the spare tyre well and on the inside cover of your service schedule.
you also need to be ware of dealers and sellers 'upping spec' ie making the car out to be more than it is, each and every 'GT' and 'GTI' will have colour coded bumpers, the S and Se never got this

Ooops- i guess its been asked a million times! I cant get 'search to work today
The car is definately a 130 engine (checked the code) and its a 52 plate with colour coded bumpers....so that makes it a GT then? Can the VIN tell me anything?
Thanks,
Dave.

How To: Check your Vin Number, your options list and more (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=12454)

You're probably searching for GT or GTI and getting nothing because the search doesn't recognise words or phrases with fewer than 4 characters ;)
Unfortunately anyone can colour code their bumpers.
Under the GT TDi badge there is a 1.9 GT TDi (150), a 1.9 GT TDi (130), a 1.9 GT TDi (115) and a 1.9 GT TDi (110)
There is however only one TDi with a 130 engine making yours a GT TDi
To be sure, have a look here (http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/specs/equipment.aspx?deriv=21556) for the 3 door options and here (http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/specs/equipment.aspx?deriv=21557) for the 5 door options.

Also, on the Diesels you will find a 150 to have TDI all in red, 130 to hav "DI" (of the TDI) to be in red, the 115 to have the "I" in red, and lesser models to be all silver.
The colour of the badges are on the back (so you know when doing a drag race from the lights), as well as the engine cover.
Alternatively, just ring a VW garage. When I bought my car, they bent over backwards to help me, as they knew I'll be taking it there for all my services.

Handy hint but badges cost less than £10 and we all know how some people like to lie about their size ;)

Quite true, but some people don't know what model they have, and as I was after a 130 or 150 I looked at the pics on autotrader, rather than just using the text search. Found a few more cars for sale...
But it is only a guide, do check out any car you buy. I'm sure everyone here knows more than me about buying cars, but it still amazes me how many people buy cars with unknown problems.
Oh, and I think the badge colours are applicable to all Diesels in the VAG group, but I'm not totally sure.
