Hi,

Lifted the bonnet today to fill oil and water. After filling I and started the engine and after 30 seconds a fairly loud ticking sound appeared from the left side of the compartment. I turned off the engine, waited a minute, started it again and after 30 seconds there it was again. Any ideas folks. My first thought was a timing belt warning but not sure. It was changed at 70k and now it's on 110.

Many thanks.

Jack

Ok, sorry about that, it's just a Golf Mk4 2001, 1.6 litre, Automatic.

Hope this helps and thanks.

I could have told you it was a petrol engine anyway, the ticking is from the fuel tank evaporative emissions canister, it should have a sticker on it saying "yes I tick, don't worry about it!"
