Hello all, Im Twiggy (Pete) from stoke on trent and i am currently in the market for a T4 van.
Im starting a new business venture and i couldnt think of a better van i would like to help me along my quest.
I am also in the middle of selling my beloved BMW e30 325i which sadly does have to go So i can completly move back to the vw Scene, lol. Truth is i cant afford to run both:(
So guys i was wondering if anyone on here was selling a nice T4 for me and also if you could answer a few of my questions .... ?

This looks like a decent forum with plenty of helpfull people and i look forward to dealing with many of you in the near future (I like modded vans):biglaugh:

Ok here goes ...........

which engine is best
1.9 tdi OR the 2.5tdi ?

Will Golf mk4 alloys fit a T4 ?
Am i right in thinking the T4 is stud pattern 5x112 ?

Where is the best place to buy lowering springs for these vans or suspension kits ?

lwb or swb ? (which is best)

Sorry to come straight on here and start asking loads of questions but i am really G'eed up about buying my first van and i wanna get it spot on, and then ill show you my pictures when its done. Cheers People,

The 1.9 is only a TD, so there's not much opportunity to tweak it and it's probably not as strong as a 2.5, either. The 2.5TDI comes in 88bhp and 102bhp flavours and is electronic. an 88bhp motor can be taken to 102 with an intercooler and a few tweaks and a 102 can be taken to 155bhp with a remap and a set of injectors - I know a man who can, if you're interested.

any PCD 5x112 wheel with the right centre bore WILL fit a T4, but not that many are correctly load-rated. If you're using it commercially then you'd be ill-advised to fit Golf 4 rims - they will be far weaker than van ones. You should also be aware that you should really run commercial, or reinforced tyres. You might be fine for ages on lower spec stuff, or you might have something fail, or an accident and you may find your insurance won't cover you as the stuff you've fitted isn't fit for purpose.

Lowering springs from Mike Devine at http://www.c-m-c.org.uk/ - the kit is from £85+VAT.

LWB or SWB really depends on your needs. The SWB is pretty much like driving a car. LWB will feel rather more cumbersome. Either way they're corking vans to drive.

golf IV wheels have a 5 x 110mm pcd, The Passat wheels are 5 x 112mm, as well as the audi A4, A6, and A8.

Depending on what you need the van for... i'd go for the swb 2.5tdi. plenty on poke and not too big to park in and around town.

Good luck,

Nick

............. and i was seriously thinking about getting them for the van when i buy it, going by what you have said though i take it they wouldnt fit, right ? :aargh4:
Gutted!!

I too think the 2.5 would be the better option and also they can be tweeked a little to make them a little nippier, which is good. Its just finding one. All i seem to come across is 1.9 td which im not too fussed about but i would prefere the 2.5 if i had the option at the time.
I have 3k here waiting for a reasonably good condition t4 and im hoping to get atleast an R-plate with that kind of money and its gotta be a good un for 3k. If anyone heres of a nice one for sale, let me know guys.

Thanks for your help.
