I just took one of my wheel arch covers off today and noticed some slight surface rusting on some of the steelwork under the car. Some of the protective paintwork was also starting to flake off to reveal more layers of rust. The car is only 6 years old but I guess the climate doesn't help matters in the UK but realistically I should be keeping on top of this. So my challenge this weekend is rust repair...

Does anybody have any suggestions on how to remove and protect this steelwork from rust? I'm talking about an effective way of removing the rust, any products that might be necessary and some sort of paint/primer to apply afterwards.

Thanks
Dan

what car do you have. after 6 years it should not be going rusty, presuming its a vag we are on about.

a 6 year old audi should not be starting to rust. some pics would be good to see whats going on. doesn't the warranty cover rust (or is it just perforation ).
my audi has a few slightly rusty bits behind the liners, but its 18 years old, so thats allowed.
if its not covered by warranty then clean it off, kill it with jenolite or similar, prime with zinc rich primer, then top coat, then underseal with wax.
