Hi

I had a go at changing the timing belt of a 2001 Polo 1.4 16 V auto the oter day. after trying for a few hours without getting anywhere, I had to give up in despair !! Is there no way to remove the crankshaft pulley bolt without buying a tool VAG Sealey tool no VS12473 ? Also is it essential to remove the right hand mounting for replacing secondary belt tensioner ??

I can't also figure out the size of the crank pulley bolt !! (20mm bihexagon socket seems a bit loose, is it 19mm ?).

Any tip on this will be greatly appreciated.

Best
Roy

Hello There,

I dont really know your technical experience sir but i strongly advise you to get this cambelt change done correctly first time as a the cost of a failure will be horendessly expensive,Its best to invest a little now and not a lot later,if you are not sure get proffesional help

Best Wishes

Hello abermaster

I agree - returning timing belt kit to GSF and getting it done by a professionals !! Belt looks like it is in good condition though as this 7 year old car has only done 27000 miles.

thanks all
