Hi Guys, my golf mk 4 v6 2.8 4 motion has recently started to overheat. It only happens when i turn on the aircon on (hot or cold). i have had the gas exchanged and this has not helped. When i drive without aircon the car is fine. Within 5 mins of the aircon being on it is over heating. If you have any idea i would be very greatful.
Thanks
Charlie
Sounds like you have a problem with the fan control module - sits on the lh side underneath. Follow the thicker cables from the rad fans to the control module and look for signs of wear/corrosion etc. See pic attached.

Thanks for your reply. I will be having a look at it during the week and will let you know what i find. How easy is the fan control module to change by yourself? or is it easier to get it done at a garage and how much should i expect it to cost?
Thanks
Charlie

Check the fan power fuses on top of the battery, one strip fuse and the cars nearside plug in fuse. Check the plug in fuses location for melting.
