Hi folks

Does anyone know where I can source the little rubber boots that go on the sliding pins for the brake calipers on a 1999 A4 Tdi - not a quattro just the standard Avant 90 BHP on Lucas calipers.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Grab a set second hand set from the breakers... or sometimes they come free with a set of brake pads, not sure why, but pad manufacturers always include a little surprise (its like Christmas, but better!), so far I've had a set of caliper bolts, a set of rubbers, a packet of pin grease and some copper grease! although i'm pretty sure its just pot luck what you get :)

You could be really radical and buy them form Audi, for £13 a set...

If buying from an Audi dealership was the only option then fair enough but i struggle with the concept of paying main dealer prices for a 13 year old car with 210k miles on the clock to be honest and i am sure someone out there has found a supplier at sensible prices. Unfortunately i live in Northern Ireland where legislation has all but taken all the decent breakers out of the market so that all they have now are fairly recent cars so no good to me and I did live in England for 13+ years so I know how lucky you are with decent breakers.

Again any guidance to a decent supplier would be appreciated :)

OK, I don't agree with you about buying from a dealer as we need them for the parts not made by outside suppliers such as trim and as I keep saying the age, mileage and market value of a car should not affect the way it is maintained. I am guessing your car has the 280-mm Lucas TRW brakes and the genuine part number for one pair of these boots with bolts and grease is 8E0698470B and they are available from TRW suppliers under the part number ST1506 and are also available from PEX, FTE and ATE.

did i grudge paying 60 quid for an n75 valve for my 18 year old 306k mile car, or £125 for a pair of headlight lenses ? not one bit. in fact i am grateful that they still supply parts for older vehicles that are of a higher quality than most aftermarket parts. support vag and they will continue supplying parts unlike some other manufacturers that couldn't give a stuff about anything thats over 10 years old.

I know that this is an old thread but I've recently bought the rubber boots in question for the front brakes (Lucas) my 99 A4 from my local Toppart autofactor.
They're Mintex brand, part number MBA 1301.
Hope this helps someone.
