Very confused about A6 version?

Hi all

Can someone please help me to identify what version of A6 I have, it is a 2.8 Quattro but I am buggered if I can figure out if it is a C4 or C5 version.

According to the registration certificate the car was first registered 15 August 1997, now I have seen some refer to a C4 as being up to August 1997, so would that be the beginning or the end of August? I tried to find a Haynes manual but I only see a version for the A6 up until May 1997. I tried phoning the agents but 2 different people gave me 2 different answers.:mad: My engine number starts with ACK. What other information would help me to identify the car I have?

Look on the ID Label in the spere wheel bay. That is the complete build of the car and all the options. Regards Peter

Look at your chassis number - if it contains 4A its a C4 and if it says 4B its a C5.

For example my car is a C6 - my chassis number starts WAUZZZ4F

If the rear fog lights are in the number plate surround, it's a C5:
